Great coffee maker at a great price,
By D. Workman "David H. Workman" (Frederick, MD) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mr. Coffee EJX36 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
The Mr. Coffee EJX36 does just what a good coffee maker is supposed to do - it brews a great pot of coffee at a nice hot temperature. The no-drip spout is excellent, the water filter has turned out to be a very handy feature (we've tried a side-by-side with and without the filter, and it does make a difference), and finally, it's well designed and quite attractive. The new features are nice to have as well - I appriciate the "Brew Strength" selector and the cleaning cycle, which I've never had in a coffee maker before. Overall, an excellent purchase that we're very happy with.
Some other reviewers have mentioned that the neck to the carafe is too narrow which makes it hard to clean by hand - but it cleans just fine in the dishwasher.

Toxic China Plastic?,
This review is from: Mr. Coffee EJX36 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
After using the same programmable Mr. Coffee for many years, I was dismayed to find it was no longer made. I did find one at a yard sale for $4 and have been using it for the last 4 years, but...finally decided to go ahead and splurge for a new one.
I found this cute red Mr. Coffee that had a separate pour lid, programmable etc. just like the old one. I brought it home, washed it out, and ran a pot of water as per the instructions. This morning I ran the first pot of coffee thru, employing the 'strong' option, anticipating how good my coffee would taste with '97% less chlorine' from the water filter, and poured the first cup..which tasted great for about 15 seconds, until I processed the bitter aftertaste! My hubby just spit his first cup out. Thinking it was the filter, I dumped the first pot (made with freshly ground, very expensive coffee, I might add!) and ran a second, without the filter. Same result--a terrible bitter chemical aftertaste. I examined the coffeemaker, and noticed a very 'hot plastic' smell coming from the lid area, which explained where the chemical taste is coming from. That is when I went online to check reviews and Viola--Bitter Plastic Aftertaste! And a good many reviews complaining that it only lasted 6 months, too. Shame on me for buying without reading the reviews first. This is really scary, if it is a hazard to take a shower with toxic plastic, or microwave in it, what toxic chemicals are we ingesting from this coffeemaker? As it is made in China, who knows what it is made of--we have seen the recalls over and over for unsafe materials. Too bad the guy Sunbeam hired to revive the company in the 90's didn't leave the little plant right here where I live, but sold it off, put thousands of Americans out of work, and then took his bonus of millions of dollars and went on to 'save' another company. I will now be looking for a Made in America coffeepot..wish me luck. Until then, I will be using my $4 yard sale Mr. Coffee--Model No PRX 20--which by the way, was Made in America!!!

BEST Coffeemaker I've Ever Owned!,
By
This review is from: Mr. Coffee EJX36 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
Was recommended this specific coffeemaker by my son-in-law who is a U.S. Air Force E-6 Tech. Sgt. at Fort Dix, N.J. He's a "serious" coffee drinker both at home and on the job. I saw that he had one, (at home), and I needed to replace my current Mr. Coffeemaker. (Coffee grounds constantly showing up in the finished coffee plus the carafe leaked no matter what direction you poured from). I was ready to give up drinking coffee forever because I have owned many coffeemakers in my 43 yrs. of drinking the stuff. Checked out the price on Amazon and it was on sale,($39.99). Checked local Target and purchased it for the same sale price so I didn't end up paying S/H plus tax. Read the directions for preparing the unit prior to making the first pot. I have to say this made about THE very best coffee I have ever had! (I used a new fresh bag of Dunkin' Donuts brand coffee). Made the full 12-cup pot* and between husband and myself, finished the whole pot right away. And FINALLY - a carafe that 100% does NOT leak. I was ready to purchase this in RED, ( which is really beautiful - not bright red or candy-apple or cheap looking, but instead a deep rich red), but instead went for black/stainless look only because it was difficult to match the red with a new toaster and blender from other companies. It has a "water filtration system" which is great if you have any issues with your tap water. The "pause' n serve" feature works. No drips. The "water window" on the side is a special feature that lets you see and double check the exact amount of water you've poured in. EVERYTHING the manufacturer says this does - it DOES. Plus, it looks beautiful sitting on the counter. *There is, however, the mystery of just why do you end up with 10 cups of coffee when you've made 12. I read tons of reviews on all brands of coffeemakers and many seem to say this is the case. But who cares? Just make another pot if you want more. I am very happy with this and wonder why no one else has written a review yet. Go out and get this one. It's a WINNER!
