I bought this model a month and a half ago for $19.95 at a local store. After makeing a pot of coffee I noticed water pooling around the base of the coffee maker and what appeared to be brewed coffee in the fresh water container.

As water is heated, it is sprayed on top of the filter basket. The problem is that steam from the heated water cools and condenses on the lid and then it drips on the side of the coffee maker to the counter or back into the fresh water container.

I also noticed water leaking from the tube that supplies the heated water to the filter basket at the joint where the spray arm is attached. That leak sends hot water back into the supply container.

I don't make coffee everyday and I started to noticed small black smudges forming in the fresh water container. The smudge was bacteria growing. This coffee maker provides a hot humid environment for bacteria to grow very fast in the fresh water container.

This maker and others like it are`as basic as it gets when designing a coffee maker. The quality of this coffee maker in my opinion is very poor. Mr. Coffee, you blew it this time!

They need to build better separation between the water supply side and the brewing basket not to mention a tighter lid. A better designed spray arm is also needed so heated water doesn't flow from the swivel joint back into the fresh water container.

Mr. Coffee does manufacture good coffee makers, but I'm sorry to say this model is not one of them.
