4.0 out of 5 stars good but missing some songs
First off, to the person who was asking about the music with the harmonica that aired twice in the movie, that was a clip of Tom Petty's "You Don't Know How It Feels" from 1994's "Wildflowers" CD.

The CD is good, but it does leave songs out, such as the above-mentioned song. I love the new music, but perhaps soundtracks will sell better than they do...

3.0 out of 5 stars It's a great soundtrack, but missing music
I went right out and bought this after seeing the movie (literally) but was dissapointed to find out that most of the music I remember wasn't on it. Sure there's some good songs on here, but the main ones that I liked/wanted aren't on here. This seems to be the trend with movie soundtracks currently, not putting all the music on them....what is playing when "crazy eyes"...

First off, to the person who was asking about the music with the harmonica that aired twice in the movie, that was a clip of Tom Petty's "You Don't Know How It Feels" from 1994's "Wildflowers" CD.

The CD is good, but it does leave songs out, such as the above-mentioned song. I love the new music, but perhaps soundtracks will sell better than they do when they aren't used just as a tool to promote new or current artists. That being said, this soundtrack is much better than some recent soundtracks, such as "American Pie 2" which left out two of the most prominently featured songs from the movie (Offspring's "Want You Bad" and Alien Ant Farm's "Smooth Criminal). So, buy this CD if you want to hear the tracks from groups like Lit, Weezer, and Counting Crows, but not if you want to hear songs from older artists that were in the film.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best soundtrack of the year so far, June 17, 2002
By
This review is from: Mr. Deeds (Audio CD)
This is a very good soundtrack. All of these songs are excellent. I loved the classic song Space Oddity by David Bowie. The great Pete Townsend song Let My Love Open the Door is featured here. The song I've Seen All Good People by Yes is just one of those great 70's anthem like songs that brings people together.

The new songs on this soundtrack are pretty good too. Where are You Going by Dave Mathews is an elegantly subtle song. Sweetest thing by U2 is a very pretty song that fits the theme of the movie well. Another good song on this CD in my opinion is the light and breezy Island in the Sun by Wheezer. I also enjoyed the lively new song by the Counting Crows.

This is an enhanced CD with interactive games on it. I enjoyed playing the catching the cat game in which you have to rescue cats falling from a building. I also liked playing the typing game on this CD. Your typing speed is tested in this game. The faster you can type out words the more chances you have of hitting an animated foot. This game is very challenging and fun. This CD even includes the trailer to the movie itself. This is the best soundtrack of the year so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Eclectic Collection, July 25, 2003
This review is from: Mr. Deeds (Audio CD)
It's obvious some serious thought was put into the music for the motion picture Mr. Deeds. From new tracks (Dave Matthews' movie theme of Where Are You Going) to classic oldies like Space Oddity by David Bowie (Often called Major Tom) and Let My Love Open The Door by Peter Townshend, this CD seemingly has it all.

I prefer the track by track approach to reviewing an album, so I'll go that way here.

Where Are You Going - Dave Matthews Band
Definitely my favorite song on the track, DMB comes together with another great hit. The drums and change in tone throughout the song reflect the movie so well.

Sing - Travis
Although the intro was a bit disturbing (I thought my CD was damaged), the melody which ensues is intriguing. The banjo adds a great touch to an almost addictive song.

Let My Love Open The Door - Peter Townshend
My family thought I was crazy when I was singing this song throughout the house for at least a week after seeing the movie. Everyone knows why a classic like this is included on a CD.

Wrong Impression - Natalie Imbruglia
I had heard this song before I had listened to the album, and I'd have to say that it is probably one of my least favorite songs on the album, but you should really take that with a grain of salt because of this sheer quality of this album.

Happy in the Meantime - Lit
I wish this song would've had more play time in the movie, besides just as the third song in the credits. Another great song by Lit (who I thought was a one-hit wonder with their song My Own Worst Enemy), and I hope to hear more from them in the future.

Island in the Sun - Weezer
A nice break from the slowness of some of the other songs on the album, Weezer puts together a great guitar melody and some good lyrics to make a meaningful song.

Friends & Family - Trik Turner
This is the song which I think has the best sheer meaning on this album. I like the upbeat rock notes and the mixed vocals.

Space Oddity - Adam Sandler & David Bowie
Although this was one of my favorite parts of the movie, its placement as basically the original song on the CD was unwelcome by me. It slowed down drastically the pace of what the CD had going, and the odd intro by Adam Sandler made it even less impressive.

Falling - Ben Kweller
The piano melody in this song, although simplistic, is perfect for the lyrics. I love the chorus, too, and all in all this song is great.

Go To Town - Counting Crows
This upbeat rock song (often called Goin' Down To New York Town), is a great example of how the Counting Crows can produce some great music. I love the guitar work, and the lyrics are so easy to understand and sing along. One of the best parts of the album.

I've Seen All Good People - Yes
This song was another departure from the tone throughout this album, and it was odd to hear it right after such a good Counting Crows song. Although it is a great classic song, I think I would've left this song off of the album for one of the other songs not included.

Some of the songs left off of the album include Mungo Jerry's In The Summertime (one of my all-time favorite songs, played in the background during one of Crazy Eye's scenes), and Tom Petty's You Don't Know How It Feels. I love both of these songs, and I wish they would've been included on the album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great soundtrack!, June 28, 2002
This review is from: Mr. Deeds (Audio CD)
This truely is one of the best soundtracks to come out in several years. "Where are You Going" by Dave Matthews Band and "Goin' Down to New York Town" by Counting Crows are my two favorites by far. The remixes of "Wrong Impression" and "Sweetest Thing" are also noteworthy, as is Ben Kweller's "Falling." Lit and Trik Turner also lend good songs to the album, as does Weezer. And I love "Let My Love Open the Door."

About the only thing I don't like about this album are the David Bowie and Yes tracks. They just don't do it for me. But Counting Crows and Dave outweigh those two by a large amount.

I mean, this soundtrack is definately not a Forrest Gump soundtrack, but it's not trying to be either. If that's what you're looking for, keep looking and good luck finding one ANYWHERE...but if you're looking for the best soundtrack of today's music, look no further than Mr. Deeds.

This is a great soundtrack! If the movie is anywhere near as good as the soundtrack i am there. "Where are you going" by Dave Matthews band is great song. I also love the remix of "Happy in the Mean Time" by Lit. All the songs on the soundtrack are great. There are several current singles on the record as well as some older stuff like "Sweetest Thing" by U2, "Space Oddity" by David Bowie, and "I've Seen All Good People" By Yes. The only song i wasn't all that crazy about was The Counting Crows song, but it is a new song that i am sure Countring Crows fans will like.

Although there's some good songs on here (namely the ones by Trik Turner and Weezer), I didn't find my favourite song from the movie on here. I forgot exactly where it was played, but it was played twice during the movie. It had a couple hard hits on a bass drum and a harmonica playing...if anyone knows it, tell me..heh. number1alien@hotmail.com. Overall though, a pretty decent set of tunes. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Huge fan of the Sandman and music, June 19, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Mr. Deeds (Audio CD)
Except for Travis, I love this C.D. Dave Matthews Band's and Counting Crows' songs are awesome. Hearing some older songs, like U2 and Yes also added a nice touch. But my favorite song would be either Ben Kweller or David Bowie with an intro by Adam Sandler. And after you buy the C.D., go see the movie once or twice or however many times you want to.
