My kind of learning experience!,
By Keahi Felix (Kauai, Hawaii) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mr. Everit's Secret: What I Learned from the World’s Richest Man (Hardcover)
Mr. Everit's Secret -- Now that's my kind of learning experience! At last I can go past the stage of making affirmations and prodding myself to "think abundance" into accessing abundance directly.Thank you, Alan Cohen, reality and imagination are in meaningful dialogue in your book. Mr. Everit and the seeker in the story touch the wellsprings of my own planetary experience and make it possible for me to take my inner/outer work to further expression. I also appreciated the format of the book with its concise and clear journal entries. That's a great teaching tool. I liked being privy to the seeker's evolution and then relating it to mine. Bravo, Alan!

The "Illusions" of this millenium,

This review is from: Mr. Everit's Secret: What I Learned from the World’s Richest Man (Hardcover)
Been looking for a good read? This is it! I haven't been as enthusiastic about a book since Richard Bach's "Illusions" in the 70's. Mr Everit's Secret is inspiring, funny, brilliant and so well written I didn't want it to end! I'm sending copies to my friends and collegues.

Good but not what I expected,
By Marc Tremblay (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mr. Everit's Secret: What I Learned from the World’s Richest Man (Hardcover)
The first book I read from Alan was 'I had it all the time' which is about one of the best book I've ever read. This books doesn't bring anything new beside a business theme in a fictional story to cover ideas he already shared in his previous books. If you have read books from Alan before, save your money. If you haven't and need a booster for your financial life, get this book. Otherwise, I think Alan has written better books for the price with more content.

Fabulous Inspiration,
By Lisa Mascaro (Maui, Hawaii) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mr. Everit's Secret: What I Learned from the World’s Richest Man (Hardcover)
Mr Everit's Secret by Alan Cohen is a modern day parable and nothing short of a masterpiece. The story is about a man who is wanting the wisdom of his boss. He is being mentored by his boss who has a peaceful and serene posture, one which this man is striving for. You journey thru the lives of these two men and you see how the mentor tells his subtle tales, and how the young man soaks it all in. The ending is a complete surprise and brought me to tears. I couldn't put it down. I recommend it to everyone who needs inspiration. In fact, I bought 10 copies and will be passing them out to my closest friends. MUST READ!!!

A marvelous story and beautifully written. The "what I learned" summaries for each chapter help bring it all into focus.Have purchased multiple copies and given to family and friends! Highly recommend as a book that one can revisit over and over. Has multiple layers to it, yet accessible and joyous. In reading some of the formal book reviews (not the customer reviews), I wonder if the formal reviewers fully read the book as there are certain inaccuracies about factual information and the intentions of the book. Thank you to Alan Cohen for putting such an outstanding work forward!

I have just finished this book a second time, and cried at the end just like the first time! A parable is a delicious way to connect to an audience, this one is funny, sad, energizing, dear, and poignant. Even though it isn't new, it is classic and timeless. I'll be giving this book to my CEO clients as a gift of perspective. The highest honor I could give it is to share it.

Conveys Truth Through A Story,

This review is from: Mr. Everit's Secret: What I Learned from the World’s Richest Man (Hardcover)
I like all of Alan Cohen's books, but this one stands out because it is in the form of a story. Since ancient times, Aesop and all the world's religions have used stories to engage people and teach them timeless truths."Mr. Everit's Secrets" will teach you the wisdom of positive, abundant thinking that can focus your mind towards success.

Even where the sun always shines it sometimes too hot,

The upbeat- positive- message of "See good-and it is good" is one which can help a lot of people. The problem is that most of the people who believe in such a message live it inside them anyway. And those others who are more unhappy in their lives tend to remain unhappy, no matter how many words of cheer- up and encouragement they receive. The simplistic truths of Mr.Everit are definitely truths if they move and inspire people. But reality and its problems are unfortunately far more complex than simple words of wisdom can solve. So while I am not against this kind of stuff, and love a nice turn of phrase and thought I do not think that in the end it will help very much those who really need it. For those of us for whom everyday life is a struggle I would recommend a deeper book of inspiration. The Psalms. They go into the heart of our most painful and powerful realities, and they ideally connect us with God who is our only real hope in the end. |
