Ups and downs,
By Rachelle L (Redmond, Wash.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mr Excel ON EXCEL: Excel 97, 2000, 2002 (Paperback)
As an Excel trainer for the past fifteen years, I've seen what does and doesn't work in presenting information to users. There are many good ideas in this book, and deserve being written about. But while some of them are presented well, others sometimes miss the mark. The ones that work give some very helpful information that could be used on the road to mastering Excel. They involve tips that are sure to boost the user's efficiency. But the ones that don't work sometimes portray a solution that is not necessarily the most effective in each case. In those cases, I felt that there were alternatives that would involve fewer steps, fewer keystrokes, or perhaps fewer lines of VBA code. Hopefully those who buy the book will be able to tell the difference between them.

Mr Excel on Excel Exceeds My Wildest Expectations!!!,
By kat chamberlin (Lincolnshire, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mr Excel ON EXCEL: Excel 97, 2000, 2002 (Paperback)
This is the most unbelievable software book I've ever read! I started highlighting helpful ideas, but almost immediately gave up that effort because I'd have to highlight every line! No matter what your level of Excel expertise, this book will boggle your mind. I have a library full of Excel books, but NEVER have I seen even a fraction of these tips and tricks. How Bill and Joseph discovered these shortcuts, I'll never know. But thank goodness they had the foresight and generosity to share them with the rest of us!!! This is a MUST READ BOOK.

Great book if you can decipher the explanations,
By A Customer
This review is from: Mr Excel ON EXCEL: Excel 97, 2000, 2002 (Paperback)
I agree with the other reviewers who have said this book is poorly written. However, I have learned a lot of extremely useful tips. Copying you page setup settings to other sheets is one of my favorites. I also like the fact that this book contains no filler; it's jam-packed with smart tips on using Excel.I would say that if you are already a pretty advanced Excel user, it's not too difficult to decipher the many poorly written explanations. If I were rating the book on its writing quality alone, I'd give it two or three stars. As for usefulness to an already advanced or intermediate user, I give it five. Just be prepared to struggle at times understanding what the authors are saying. I hope they put more care into writing their subsequent books.
