Jackie Wilson just may have been the greatest singer and performer over the past fifty years...Elvis was crazy about him and they both shot to stardom at the same time, he inspired numerous greats such as Michael Jackson and Al Green but nobody ever had the tremendous power and glorious tones that made up the magnificent voice of Jackie Wilson, and what a terrific live performer! Grab this priceless gem of a box set while it is around because greatness like this will never happen again, this is the Ultimate Jackie collection to have, each disc a magical musical listening experience that has to be heard & felt to be fully appreciated. Early hits produced and written by future Motown founder Berry Gordy were the building blocks of Motown, timeless classic "Lonely Teardrops" clearly shows that as many greats as Motown produced none came close to Jackie, a puzzlement Jackie was not immediately signed to Motown because in a big way he contributed to its beginnings...thankfully after Gordy stint, great records continued and grew in quality & magnificence as the iconic singer matured, many classic recordings such as "A Woman, A Lover, A Friend", "Doggin' Around", "Night", "(You Were Made For) All My Love", "Baby Workout", "No Pity (In The Naked City)", "Whispers (Gittin' Louder)", "Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher", "I Get The Sweetest Feeling", "Just Call My Name" helped in a big way to define a great musical era, brilliant stellar performances continued and the long and totally phenomenal list is filled an amazing amount of variety...listen to definitive "For Once In My Life" then be blown away by the beauty and emotional depth of "Danny Boy", experience the intense anguish & pathos of "Even When You Cry" with Count Basie, then know a true musical once-in-a-lifetime genius.Read more ›

What is great about this 3 CD set is that until it came out, many of the rare album tracks had never been released before on CD. This is the only collection of Jackie Wilson's music that includes some of his songs with Billy Ward's Dominoes and goes from "Reet Petite" right up to some his songs from his last LP, and his last charting record, "Don't Burn No Bridge" with The Chi-Lites.

A warning for "Collector's". There are two DIFFERENT versions of the book that came with this Box Set. The original box set had to be called back and first version of the book was destroyed -- for legal reasons--and an "edited" version was released. The original version is VERY rare as most of the box sets sold contained book #2.

Regardless of which book you have, the music is fantastic. There will never be a singer like Jackie Wilson, he was, in my opinion the greatest of all.

Wilson was a knockout live performer who made R & B that rocked and sang ballads with a voice like honey on moonbeams. The highlight of this three-disc set-which spans from the fifties to the seventies-is the endless build of "(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher
