5.0 out of 5 stars George is a clever guy, May 24, 2006
This review is from: Mr. Galloway Goes to Washington: The Brit Who Set Congress Straight About Iraq (Paperback)
George Galloway is probably the most decent MP in British history. This guy is courageous, well spoken, stays on message all the way long, and debates extremely well (I watched him defeat Hitchens the Popinjay). His arguments are simple but powerful. His prediction that the Iraq War would be launched on a pack of lies was highly accurate. His ideas on the causes of terrorism and that British and American foreign policies need reversal are highly relevant. In short: Keep up the good work george...!.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Read!, October 10, 2005
This review is from: Mr. Galloway Goes to Washington: The Brit Who Set Congress Straight About Iraq (Paperback)
Nevermind some of the other halfwit reviews here: It's a shame how we don't see more of this from American politcians--a more boring much of bought and paid for lemmings whose only interest is their own re-elections and bland, mind-numbing blah-blah-blah make people change the channel like we've never seen. It's refreshing when someone speaks plainly truth to power. The criticisms here represent the people who can't look in the mirror at their own country's complicity in foreign affairs. Denial isn't just a country in Egypt, friends. It's a large chunk of people here in the USA who put their hands over their ears when they hear Galloway tell them about America's strong support of Saddam in the 1980's while he gassed his own people and invaded Iran. Or the training of Islamic Fundamentalists to fight the Soviets in Afghanistan. Or the state terror of Israel and the large open-air prison in which the people of Palestine live, all the while playing the victim card to teenagers throwing stones. By all rights, Israel should be next on the WMD hitlist, since THAT country actually HAS illegally developed nuclear weapons and has had them for decades.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mr. Galloway knows what he is talking about.......I love this man!!!, November 26, 2005
This review is from: Mr. Galloway Goes to Washington: The Brit Who Set Congress Straight About Iraq (Paperback)
All those who saw Mr. Galloway on CSPAN when he was at the US Congress and have also read his book and given this book 1 or 2 or 3 stars are part of the Republican machines in the United States who when they find out that anyone is against the Iraq war and also against the Bush administration try in any way they can to critize the person or thier products. This book is the best out there. It talks about the facts and the truth. And I know very well that you Republicans don't want to hear about the truth as to why we went to this illegal and unnecessary war. The whole world is suffering be'cos of the policies of this Bush administration. For those of who haven't read this book yet, please get yourself a copy and you'll know what I am talking about. I love this book!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read! Very Entertaining!!!, September 27, 2005

A great and entertaining read!
A must read!
Mr. Hitchens is an opportunist that cannot be taken seriously...he is against the dictator of Baghdad because of this and that while at the same time he was against the first gulf war..at that time the genocide of the Kurds was only 3-4 years old! And yet he was against the war. Although to his credit Hitchens has always supported the Palestinian cause, as demonstrated by his appearance (and friendship) with Edward Said in "Blaming the Victims" and the PLO...although I do have to admit that one must be consistent. How can we trust someone who has flipped in such a dramatic way? So he gets an F for consistency and seriousness, and an A+ for rightly supporting the Palestinian cause as any serious intellectual does.

Galloway has been consistent throughout his public career, and if he has changed he changes in order to stay true to his fundamental beliefs of peace and equity. Galloway indeed went to congress and for the first time voiced what so many of us have wanted voiced to the Senators. A great read! Well done!

Anyone that can actually support the war in Iraq has read little about the history of Iraq or the middle-east, is not well traveled, and is living in a bubble..oh! that's called being an American.
What a shame.

George Galloway lives up to his usual brilliance in this book.A brilliant orator who dosnt pul any punches.A spade will always be a spade to George. If he was a politician in my country he would have my vote. The world needs to wake up to what is going on, but alas this will not happen as the media has been hi jacked and the public in general are like sheep. To all lovers of truth this book is highly recomended.

5.0 out of 5 stars US Congress embarrased, March 8, 2007
This review is from: Mr. Galloway Goes to Washington: The Brit Who Set Congress Straight About Iraq (Paperback)
Faced with allegations of profiting from the oil for food program in Iraq, Galloway sucessfully demonstrats the hypocracy of US policy of supplying arms to the region resulting in the destruction of Iraq and the death of thousands of innocent civilians. At the same time he clears his name of any wrongdoing by explaining the mechanism of his charitable organization which is designed to assist Iraq.

4.0 out of 5 stars A real man of peace, December 21, 2008
This review is from: Mr. Galloway Goes to Washington: The Brit Who Set Congress Straight About Iraq (Paperback)
I always find it both edifying and entertaining to hear Mr. George Galloway speak. He is one of the most important politicians in Britain today. Mr. Galloway has assumed a role I had always hoped that Mr. Tony Benn would play - as the leader of an independent party that really represents the people of Britian - and, indeed, all persecuted people in the world. As much as I love Mr. Tony Benn, a vote for him was invariably a vote for his corrupted party and thus also for Blaire. Why didn't Tony Benn found Galloway's party RESPECT years ago? Why has such a movement emerged a little too late!
Mr. Galloway is a true Scot and comes from a most admirable race who have always known how to fight for what is right and to champion justice and equality. Although Galloway has left (or rather been dismissed from) the Labour Party, with the exception of Tony Benn and possibly a few others, he is the last of the true Labourites. His politics and social conscience are a direct legacy of the real men of honour who founded the Labour movement - such as his wonderful fellow-Scot Kier Hardy. The majority who have remained in the Labour Party have distorted that party so much that it no longer deserves the appellation 'Labour'; even the term 'New Labour' is misleading since in reality it is comparable with (and at times even further right wing than) the Conservative Party!
It took courage to try to persuade the American Congress not to wage war on Iraq. Had they heeded his advice so many more innocent people would still be alive today - not only a million and a half Iraqis but also thousands of young Americans who have been killed there. Mr. Galloway came to America as a true friend of the American people. He offered them sound and moral advice which would have helped them as a nation - to avoid not only the tragic loss of so many American lives but an extravagant drain on the American economy, not to mention the provocation of yet more terrorist strikes in the future. Instead Blaire came ingratiating himself and, like the fawning character he is, promising assistance on behalf of the British people.
If one witnesses the typical 4th July festivities, rarely will one see more fanatical celebrations about their 'independence' from Britiain. The new 'independent' country was to be ruled by the (British-descended)elite and privileged from the ranks of the new colonists, as opposed to the British per se who still had contacts with Britain. This new-found 'Independence' did not give freedom to the real native Americans, nor to the Afro-Americans (at that time slaves). Since present-day Americans commemorate this day with such joy, remembering how they got rid of the British, then why do they always seem to need the approval and complicity of the British in times of emergency. America's catastrophe in Iraq was none of Britain's business and the British puppet Blaire merely fed the British people with lies that came from the mouths of certain Americans. These ccomplacent liars (whose own sons were not the ones getting killed in Iraq) were unprepared to hear the truth when Mr. Galloway addressed them.
To describe this precarious friendship/relationship between America and Britain, Mr. Galloway once used a topical analogy. He likened it to the relationship between Clinton and Monica Lewinsky; not an equal relationship but one where the one partner was standing (or sitting) while the other partner was on its knees. Unfortunately, Mr. Galloway's own private life (by his own admissions) has been tainted by certain 'epsiodes'. It is to his credit perhaps that he does not try to conceal things like a hypocrite. However, in addition to a freer society, his leadership could also bring about a more permissive one, in all senses of the word. While sexual and moral tolerance is understandable, it would be a shame if this ideal went a step further and moral standards and intitutions were compromised.
Moreover, Mr. Galloway is often too outspoken to be the meek leader that Mr. Tony Benn could have been. While I love to hear Mr. Galloway speak (and I support most of what he says), I cannot honestly see him as a prospective prime minister of Britian. However, his place as an opposition leader is invaluable. Thankfully in him the British people (and the oppressed all over the world) have a powerful and eloquent voice to express a constant cry against injustice and corruption and a guideline for that which is honest and fair.

Mr Galloway is quite the 'personality.' Please go to youtube and watch the full clip of his support for the suicide bombers in Iraq. It is under= Galloway Praises Iraqi Insurgency (w/ Add'l Real Time Intro). Mr Hitchens is also addicted to being in the media, but wait until he is done and there is a clip from Al Jazeera showing Mr Galloway essentially encourging continued insanity in Iraq- not stability. Hiding behind his glib manner and monologues is a mercenary mind. Remember that he is the author of the book. It is not in his best intrest to be totally forthcomming.

Anyone who says there is an easy answer to the middle east problems - crazy. Iraq is the collision of two different delusional world views. Blame to go around. Mr Galloway is wrong and quite probably guilty of profiteering. Don't give him a dime for this book- his retirement fund is in Switzerland.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Look at Brit Politics, Just Don't Look for Any Ideas Here, October 4, 2005
This review is from: Mr. Galloway Goes to Washington: The Brit Who Set Congress Straight About Iraq (Paperback)
I watched Mr. Galloway's testimony before Congress from beginning to end on CSPAN. Would that there were a tradition of firey, eloquent public speaking and political debate in the U.S. equal to what the Brits have. And I even think it would be great to have politicians in the U.S. who could dream up epithets like "drink-sodden, Trotskyist popinjay", instead of the usual unimaginative, but ultimately more harmful, repetoire of endlessly repeated name-calling, i.e. "traitors", "Liberal extremists", "Conservative fringe", blah blah blah.

Of course, after Mr. Galloway had his fun swaggering and blustering through his prepared statement, and the Congressmen began asking him boringly presented but substantive questions, it became clear that Galloway is as full of beans as a Christmas goose, that he's buddied up to the Saddamists over the years, and that he's hopelessly compromised. But what fun to watch him!

I can't believe that Galloway was so pleased with himself and his little performance, entertaining as it was, to think it justified slapping together this meager, overpriced book. And I really don't much care about Hitchins, who seems fairly irrelevant also, thus Galloway's feud with him is boring. Except they were also fun to watch on CSPAN, their recent debate in New York. But then again, after the fireworks were over and the smoke cleared, it was evident that both of these guys were long on eloquence, high on drama, but short on substance. This book is the same.

Update 2/2/06--Eagerly looking forward to Galloway's next book about his brave and noble efforts to stand up for truth and justice: "How I Got Tossed Out of Celebrity Big Brother". Yes, Galloway spent two weeks holed up as a participant on the UK "Big Brother" show, much to the outrage of his constituents and much to the amusement of his peers in Parliament, who had long ago ceased to take this grandstanding showboater seriously. He was not a winner on the show, however, getting tossed out just after Dennis Rodman. A celebrity-soaked popinjay, perhaps? Take his words with a large grain of salt.
