This stuff is recommended by the manufacturer for use on fuel lines using their fuel line componets (elbows and barbs, etc). It works really well for that, and about any other use where you need an airtight seal between threaded fittings.
However, It should be noted that the tape needs to applied correctly. This means applying tape in the correct direction, as well as using the correct amount. There is a such thing as too much of a good thing. While this may not be important in water applications, it IS important in fuel applications where a piece of teflon tape breaking loose could lead to fuel system failure, and possibly severe engine damage.
For direction, you basically want to wrap the tape in such a way that the act of threading the two pieces together doesn't tend to unwrap the tape. For standard threads (which most everything is) - if you are looking directly into the male fitting (the fitting to be wrapped) you want to wrap in a clockwise direction.
Also, if you have to use more than about 1.5 to 2 wraps of the tape, something else is wrong (possibly damaged threads or something). Furthermore, if using the stuff on a fuel application, don't wrap the last few of threads of the fitting, as you don't want any loose tape sticking out to possibly break loose and mess stuff up.
Hope this helps someone out there.
Great teflon tape. Got the job done when I was installing my new shower head.
No leaks = 5 stars
Teflon tape is a true lifesaver. Anytime there is anything with a thread it gets some of this whether it was leaking or not. Anytime I remove anything with a thread for a repair on this stuff goes. Use more than you think you need, always, and you will have no leaks. Not just for water it works for gas and air lines as well.
