5.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised I must say...
I didn't realize Mr. Houston had dropped a couple of weeks ago until I happened on it while on Amazon. After sampling the first 5 tracks I was sold! MH actually has a pretty solid R&B album, despite songs like "Letter (that line; knocking her "out the bed" smh), Sexy Young Girl and Beautiful Woman". I've always liked MH, but this CD really put him ahead of the game for...

3.0 out of 5 stars Veteran better than Mr. Houston
Maybe I was expecting too much from MH but I was looking forward to what he will do on Mr Houston. Naked was a good album, the stakes were upped with Veteran as it was a classic album that I always seem to back to every now and then for its smooth rnb cuts. Mr. Houston seemed like it fell a bit short of the MH standard. I must say I'm really getting sick of artists that...

I must say I'm really getting sick of artists that can sing but insist on auto-tuning their songs. MH used it about 6 times on songs like "I love her", "Body" and "Date" which I would have enjoyed had auto-tune been absent. The album was satisfying with tracks like the smooth "Sunset", upbeat "Case of you", lovely "Letter" & "Stranger"(amazing for an Akon cut) complete my Zune list. "Say my name" is a sweet bedroom cut that gets a mention but failed to dim the lights. A decent album so I give it 3 stars. I was looking for that "Always and Forever" track but its obviously missing. Hopefully the next round MH.

I am really feeling "How I Do", "Body" and "Say My Name". Since I downloaded the album from iTunes I've been playing it non-stop whenever I'm in the car. I give this album a firm 5 stars for me. Definitely worth checking out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected, February 1, 2011
This review is from: Mr. Houston (Audio CD)
This is actually a pretty good cd regardless of what you may have heard or read. He has a lot of nice songs and this is one of my favorite cds by him. I would recommend this cd over Mattress Music. I can play the cd without skipping a track and that's very rare with cds these days. My favorite songs are "Date", "Letter", and "How I Do". It's full of bangers though so pick this up if you have a chance!

3.0 out of 5 stars not his best, but better than most, August 20, 2010

First off, I love MH. I've been an avid listener since his Immature days. I have to admit that this album is the weakest of his solo albums. However, it is still a solid album. With songs like: Date, Body, I Love Her, and How I Do, it makes the album solid. It's very hard to find albums these days where you like more than 2 or 3 songs. I can promise you that ANY Marques Houston album you pick up, you will NOT be dissappointed. The main problem with this album is 2 things: One, he tried too hard to do what everyone else is doing now (autotune, etc). He needs to just stick with what he knows, making good music. Second, he has set the bar so high with his previous albums. MH, Naked, and Veteran are all CLASSIC RnB albums. Trust me. Just go listen to the song 'Kimberly' off the Veteran album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great CD to add to the collection, March 8, 2010

This review is from: Mr. Houston (Audio CD)
I've been a fan of MH since the days of Immature so I might be a little biased when it comes to his music.
In this CD, you will get a more mature side of MH than previous albums but with the same style that you expect from him. I'm a little disappointed the song "Sunsets" isn't on the album because that is one of my favorites from him. "Express lane" is an upbeat song that you can definitely get your dance on too but is not so much Hip Hop as "Pop Your Booty" from his self debut album "Marques Houston". I am no music critique but if you are a die hard fan of MH you will not be disappointed in this album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not What I'm Used To, November 5, 2009
This review is from: Mr. Houston (Audio CD)
Not what I'm use to from him. I think it was a step down from his last album. I really did not feel him in this album. You can tell there were a lot of other influences, which for me was not good. One song (Express Lane) I thought I was listening to T-Pain. I give this album 3.75 stars.

I will never get enough of balladeers and Marques Houston is getting to be one of my favorites. Yes, he uses the much criticized "autotune" but he balances it well with regular singing. This album may not have a popular song like "Naked" but I've been playing it in my car everyday since I got because I love his serenading voice. He shows that he can change it up with "Sexy Young Girl". I hope he becomes a staple in this genre.
