5.0 out of 5 stars I love this CD
Please understand -- this CD is NOT "It's Not Unusual"! I've loved Tom Jones and his music since I was 8 years old and I am so happy I bought this CD. I've literally listened to it every day. Pairing Tom with Wyclef Jean may seem strange but give this CD a chance!! Don't expect/think the 1970's. It's so cool to hear that great Voice singing modern hip songs. It's a...

3.0 out of 5 stars copy controll disaster
This is not the best Tom Jones record ever made but it could be listenable if it didn't contain copy control. I tried to listen it in my pc. It copied some kind of program to hard disk and then a very poor quality sound was coming out stopping now and then. I was advised that it is not possible to get an ordinary good cd sound because of this control system. The disk...

The disk contains the material twice: good sound for cd players and a poor one for pcs. It doesn't play in every player (many carplayers or walkmans don't play it at all).

Pairing Tom with Wyclef Jean may seem strange but give this CD a chance!! Don't expect/think the 1970's. It's so cool to hear that great Voice singing modern hip songs. It's a bit reggae, hip-hop, dance but there are also beautiful ballads. Tom Jones is not stuck in a 60's/70's music rut and I think that's fantastic. He did great through the 80's/90's and is continuing into this century. I hope he never stops!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Much better than many expect from him, November 24, 2002

I really don't understand why this guy is so panned by the critics. Maybe it is some kind of envy that he looks so and sings so at his age?
Anyway, this album is vintage Tom Jones, with a touch of the new millenium. He manages to stay what he always have been in all those years, and at the same time he modernizes his music.
The first single Tom Jones International is one of the best his songs ever, although I thing that Holiday will be biggest hit in the charts.
Don't believe to all those snobbish little reviews (it comes to mind that one in Q magazine), go and buy this CD and you will be satisfied.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning Achievement, March 17, 2003
By A Customer

The thought of Tom Jones pairing with Wyclef Jean may at first seem odd, cornball pioneer meets hip hop pioneer, but the CD effectively brings together Mr. Jones' soul instinct with hip hop. You wind up liking the songs but find it disconcerting that Mr. Jones sings about fans "bumrush the door" or taking women back to his "crib". But soon the catchy songs can't escape your head. This is an amazing triumph. Too bad this has not seen mainstream release here in the States.

4.0 out of 5 stars Still Valid (and Funky), December 27, 2002

This review is from: Mr Jones (Audio CD)
On this CD, Tom proves once again that he's not just some Las Vegas has-been livin' off the oldies. Maybe I have bizarre tastes in music, but I'm a big fan of both Tom Jones and Wyclef Jean. The combination of the two is a little freaky, but a hell of a lot of fun! The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that there are a couple of cuts that I don't like (like with most CDs I buy). For the most part, T.J.'s experimentation and collaborations in the past few years have been great - (check out "The Lead and How To Swing It" and "Reload"). Now I'm just waitin' for him to hook up with George Clinton (another thoroughly hip old SOB)...

I love this cd! I'm a Tom Jones fan from way back (watched his variety show as a kid), and can't get over how HIP he stays. This CD is SO great, my oh so cool kiddos can't help it--they HAVE to bop along.

5.0 out of 5 stars TJfan, January 16, 2003
By A Customer

Tom has been blessed with a voice that remains strong, as heard on the Mr. Jones CD. The song "Holiday" should do well in todays competitive environment. His remix of "I Who Have Nothing" should have been called "I Who Have Something". He still has a voice that inspires feeling and mood. The first track, Tom Jones International, is a funky toe-tapping song with lots of bass. This CD has the sound of today with the classical Tom Jones style of yesterday. I am sure he worked hard on this CD and he deserves credit.

2.0 out of 5 stars A so-so album with unacceptable copy-protection, March 11, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Mr Jones (Audio CD)
I love this guy! I've seen him many times in concert and have most of his albums. But this one is a bit of a snooze. With the exception of Black Betty and a "def-stupid" remake of "I Who Have Nothing", there is not much to recommend on this album. A pitty.

What makes it even worse is that the CD is created with "copy control technology". This means that you cannot rip the CD and load it on your MP3 player. I didn't see any mention of this feature on Amazon when I went to purchase the CD. I paid good money for a real, full-featured CD... what I got was a pseudo-CD. They should not charge full price for a CD like this.

Tom... make them stop!

Glad we can get these great releases through amazon! it would be a shame for any TJ fan to miss this one! Tom teams up with Wyclef Jean for a booming bluesy remix in Tom Jones international Its great! the entire CD is very good and a couple of tracks are outstanding! Don't miss it!

A brilliant CD. Contains TJ's essential qualities applied to some more modern grooves. The man's voice is still beautiful and a real pleasure to listen to. Particularly alongside Wyclef's production. Long may TJ continue. 'Black Betty' is hysterical and solid all at the same time.
