5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant piece of work by Julian Lennon
Mr. Jordan is probably Julian Lennon's most underrated project. I enjoyed it so much, I bought it for my friends. Mother Mary, Sunday Morning and You're The One are truly amazing. I recommend this album very highly to anyone who appreciates great music. I appreciate Julian's work because he writes with feeling and from the heart.

3.0 out of 5 stars Uneven Julian
I bought the Now Youre In Heaven single in 1989 and couldnt stop laying it. Brilliant hard rocker. Sunday Morning is a nice song, Youre The One and Second Time are pretty good, but the rest of the songs are nothing special. I would buy the album if you dont already have it for the songs I mentioned. But if you arent a big Julian fan, skip this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beatles influence, May 4, 2010

I absolutely loved this CD. It has so many songs with hints of Beatles all over it. There is the beautiful song "Mother Mary" which has a hint of "Let it be" by Paul McCartney along with "Make it up to You" which reminds me again of Paul's song"Oh Darling" from the Abbey Road Album. Then there's "Sunday Morning" which has a hint of "Blackbird" from the Beatles White Album. Julian has certainly grown musically since his first debut album "Valotte" and you can't blame him for showing similarities in his music afterall...he grew up around the Beatles and his father John Lennon was such a great influence for anyone. I would highly recommend this to any Beatle fan. Being a musician myself has allowed me to hear the similar melodies from many of the Beatles music in what Julian Lennon has composed. I am sure there is more to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mr. Jordan, November 20, 2005
This review is from: Mr Jordan (Audio CD)
Julian does well in with this cd. I have recently began to listen to all the Julian cd's I own. As I came around this one "Mr. Jordan," I have to say that is a very undrated cd. The mixing and sound quality are great. "Mother Mary" is amazing among others like "You're The One," "Angillette," "Open Your Eyes," and "Sunday Morning" which is a harmoneously delightful tune. As a whole it is a great effort from Julian...it is unfortunate it did not get the recognition that much of Julian's musical efforts deserve. I have all his cd's and can honestly say that Mr. Jordan is a project where Julian shines with musical maturity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mr. Lennon Scores With Mr. Jordan, April 22, 2010

This review is from: Mr. Jordan (Audio CD)
Julian Lennon, not just by my opinion, but by many others, is one of the most underrated and underappreciated musicians we have today, and this album proves it.

Mr. Jordan, the title derived from the movie of the same title, as well as the remake "Heaven Can Wait" with Warren Beatty, has, not surprisingly, a heaven-based theme to it. The album opens with "Now You're In Heaven", a solid rock tune. Not having heard the song before, I saw the title and simply assumed it was a ballad about a dead person. Not even close! It's about a relationship, and there's nothing dead or sad about it.

The vocals on all the tracks are amazing to listen to. It is very rare to listen to a singer truly explore their entire range. With "Mr. Jordan", Julian does just that; from falsetto .. "You're The One" .. a song that must have been fun do because of the opportunity to use his entire range, to "Angillette", where he sings in a lower register. That song is interesting because the title is a play on words but the subject is based on a friend of Julian's who was feeling suicidal at the time. The story goes that a friend left a note next to a picture of Julian and said, "Have a nice day with your Stoli and Gillettes." Stoli being vodka and Gillettes being razors. Julian combined the last two words to form a name for the person he was speaking of.

On the other hand, "I Get Up", is almost a complete departure from the rest of the album. While the other songs are solid rock or solid ballads, this one has more pop flavor to it. The vocals sound a cross between Bowie and Elvis, if such a thing is possible. Fun lyrics here as well .. "I'll make ya happy if ya let me be your pappy"... Incredible harmonica playing here as well.

"I Want You To Know" is the last song, but don't shut off the CD player just yet .. there's a little treat at the end. Almost sounds like a Monty Python skit.

No matter which song you listen to, "Sunday Morning", which also features an oboe solo, "Second Time" .. don't miss the Peter Frampton talk box solo .. "Mother Mary", beautifully done, about someone questioning what he's always come to believe, it's impossible not to appreciate the time and effort, as well as sincerity that went into to choosing and recording these songs. Too bad those responsible for promotion didn't feel the same way.

There have been many comparisons to David Bowie. I can hear some, but Julian deserves credit for simply expanding his musical range and branching out, rather than trying TO or NOT to sound like certain people. For certain, his style is all his own. It can't be compared to Bowie, or his father, for that matter.

Overall, a brilliant piece of work, from a brilliant musician, who has yet to be truly recognized as such. The good news is that Julian Lennon will soon be releasing a new CD called, "Everything Changes", sometime this year.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overlooked and underappreciated, April 23, 1999

Julian Lennon must be banging his head against a wall. How could a good album like "Mr. Jordan" go unnoticed after all this time? "Mother Mary," "I Get Up," "Sunday Morning," and "Second Time" make this a good solid album.

Very underrated CD. Julian reaches new heights with the Bowie influenced Now You're in Heaven and I Want you To Know. Second Time is my faviorite track with a great solo by Peter Frampton.I bought the album in 1989 and saw the concert at the Beacon Theater.High energy concert and CD.Very good sound quality and flow to the order of the songs. Buy this CD. Not a bad track on it.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is a great CD, September 1, 1999

I'm surprised. I got the CD because I always loved the lead-off song, "Now You're in Heaven," but I enjoyed the entire album, particularly "Mother Mary," which is just beautiful. The instrumentation on that song, as well as "Sunday Morning," was very well crafted. Some of the songs sounded a little contrived, though, like the higher register Julian sang in "Get Up" and the "I said...she said" section in "Angelette."That only diminished the album 1 star's worth, though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very underappreciated album!!! I LOVE this!!!, December 29, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mr Jordan (Audio CD)
I ordered this album because I love the songs that came from this album for the VH1: Behind the Music CD and wanted to hear more. From my understanding this album didn't get much attention when it was released in 1989 because Julian was trying to NOT sound like his dad.

You know what? So WHAT! I LOVE this CD anyway!!! Shame on Atlantic Records for not promoting it better and shame on the critics for not keeping an open mind. The critics don't always know what they're talking about half the time anyway, in my honest opinion. Therefore, I like to use my own judgment very much, thank you. And I tend to like music artists who are not afraid to branch out and try new things. It shows me just how very talented and versatile they truly are. So I applaud Julian with this endeavor of musical and vocal self-discovery.

Therefore, if you are expecting another "Valotte" or a John Lennon sound alike album, be prepared to check your bags at the door...Otherwise, this is not the album for you. But if you have an open mind, a good sense of humor and love a variety of music genres, then you should definitely buy this CD!!! And then be prepared to be taken on a fun ride that you won't soon forget.

It's just too bad that Amazon doesn't offer sound bytes for this album. But you can hear some of them by going to the page for his VH1: Behind the Music CD. Check out "Now You're In Heaven", "Angillette", "I Get Up" and "Make It Up To You", which are all from this album. I love ALL the songs on this CD; but my other favorites from "Mr. Jordan", in addition to the ones listed above, are "Open Your Eyes", "Second Time" and "I Want You To Know". What great songs! :)

This underappreciated album is solid gold as far as I'm concerned and definitely worth every penny!!!

P.S. To hear all the songs on this album, you need to go to the IMPORT version at the following link: Mr Jordan
