ITS KOKANE NOT LEMON-HEAD!,

It is true that Kokane is known mostly for singing hooks, but what people need to understand is that Kokane started out as an MC and his unique/original/fly style should not be ignored by anyone!
It is true that Kokane's funky style is something different that the 99,9% "let me say all the same stuff everyone else is saying"-style rappers, but I can honestly say that Kokane is my favourite rapper by far! "Do You Know Jesus" is a track from Jerry Long (/Kokane's) still unreleased "Ghetto Gospel" record, and if this dosent knock your socks off nothing will. Trust me. All in all this record is, once again, a showcase of Kokane's fly unique style that no one in the world could copy if their lifes depended on it...

Kokane revives the west coast on this hot album.Refreshing to know that there is still quality music out there.Tracks 1 through 8 start the album out strong especially spittin policies.Much better than the ice cube version.Track 7 is a club banger and should be played loud when around the ladies.Don't listen to the guy that said koka can't rap because this man got flows and can drop a beautiful hook.Versitile, must have if you appreciate real music, not radio garbage.

Good Beats And Not Much More (2.5 Stars),

I'll try to keep it short and sweet. This album would be completely wack if the beats weren't somewhat decent. The production ranges from good to decent, but the lyrics are straight garbage.....even for a west coast gangsta rapper. I remeber when Kokane was just a guest singer on most west coast releases (similar to Nate Dogg, but in the 90's). The difference between Kokane and Nate Dogg......Nate doesn't try to rap. Kokane should take note. Dude couldn't rhyme if his life depended on it.
There are a handful of joints that are worth a listen though. "Tell It Like It Is" is a tight joint that has one of the best beats on the whole album. "Do You Know Jesus" is another gem that has a good message and "Nasty" is pretty funny if you have a strong stomach. Also, WC comes through to lace "Kill Game" and "On Me" while Kurupt gives an assist on "Major Skrilla". Those two (along with Bad Azz) offer up some lyrical skill which is a nice change of pace. The positives about this album all end there. If there isn't a guest on the song, then there' a good chance that it's no good (even some of the guests fail to bring their "A" game at times). Like I said earlier, the beats range from pretty good to decent. The album has a distinct west coast sound to it and they work for the most part. The problem is Kokane's inability to rap. I can't say I'd reccomend this to anyone. If you dig that west coast funk vibe, you'll dig these beats, but I strongly suggest that everyone else stay clear of this train wreck of an album. Standout Tracks: Kill Game feat. WC, Tell It Like It Is, On Me feat. WC, Nasty, Do You Know Jesus (My Favorite), and Major Skrilla feat. Kurupt |
