This review is from: Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium (Paperback)
My 9 year old read this book & loved it. After hearing her laughter throughout the book, I decided to read it & found it to be one of the best reads ever. Unlike some books which parallel the movie, this book takes you up to where the movie starts. It's a fascinating adventure that will have you laughing and thinking throughout. As you read about Edwards adventures you really begin to wish you knew him. By the end of the book you feel as though you do. You won't be disappointed.

This children's book gives a short overview of Edward Magorium's life. The story is written from the perspective of a young boy who is retelling the stories about Magorium that Bellini read him. Each chapter is a letter of the alphabet, from A to Z, and each section within each chapter starts with that particular letter (for example, B includes the section "Bird Feathers"). Most of the book is devoted to how Magorium interacted with and inspired people throughout history. For example, Magorium was the one to tell the Brothers Grimm to write down their stories, Magorium was the inspiration for someone to create the game of volleyball, etc. I liked how the author used clever storytelling to work in famous quotes. For example, the following excerpt: "One day, many years from his graduation, Edward would tell this story to his friend Mark Twain while scrapbooking ... Twain turned to him and said, 'Well Magorium, I like how you didn't let school get in the way of your education!"

Overall, the book is a lighthearted tale of adventure, imagination, and finding your purpose in life.

I would certainly love to be part of that world instead of this one! Not too violent, lewd, or mature language, GREAT FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY, or just for one, like me :)

The movie was pretty good too.
