Humphrey Carpenter wrote for adults and children. His adult titles include THE OXFORD COMPANION TO CHILDREN'S LITERATURE and many acclaimed biographies: including Tolkein, Auden and Benjamin Britten. He also contributed regularly to radio and TV programmes on matters related to children's literature.

When Class Three gets sucked into their new computer, they think their teacher "and former wizard," Mr. Majeika, will be able to help them. His powers won't work online, though, and the class turns to Gulliver, a computer mouse, who leads them on a journey through cyberspace that very much resembles GULLIVER'S TRAVELS. Narrator Andrew Sachs creates telling voices for the slightly baffled Mr. Majeika, the more confident Gulliver, and the class troublemaker, Hamish Bigmore. The other students don't have distinct personalities or voices, which, while not a problem, seems like a lost opportunity. All in all, this proves a fun, if not quite magical, listening experience.
