5.0 out of 5 stars Huge fan of Jr. Gong Finally Gets His Wish
I've been trying to get a copy of this record for a few years now. I was stoked when I saw it available through Amazon a few weeks back and I can say that any Jr. Gong fan should snap it up pronto. 1.0 out of 5 stars I wanted to like it - but cannot
When I ordered this CD I was looking forward to being able to tell the one star reviewer off a bit, but that is just not the case. I was horribly disappointed in this CD. I love everything Bob has done, I dig the Zig, Julian, Ky-Mani, and Stephen. Not all of their music is something I would listen to everyday, but there is nothing unpleasant about any of the music put out...

I've been trying to get a copy of this record for a few years now. I was stoked when I saw it available through Amazon a few weeks back and I can say that any Jr. Gong fan should snap it up pronto. It has numerous tracks from his dad's records that have some new innovations and lyrics and it all is done masterfully. It is surprising that Jr. Gong has only put two other records besides this one and numerous singles. If you are trying to find other stuff he has worked on you should get Stephen Marley's latest and I also highly recommend the record "Red Star Sounds Presents Def Jamiaca" which is an awesome mix of hip-hop and reggae.

5.0 out of 5 stars I was Blown Away., January 13, 2008
This review is from: Mr. Marley (Audio CD)
I thought This was Damiens new CD when my friend lent it to me, then I realized it was his first release. I thought this CD was Leaps and Bounds better than Welcome To Jamrock. That Says alot because I really liked Jamrock. People will say "Oh, he's just using his fathers Riddim's and dubbing over them" Don't listen to crap like that. For one because Bob marley's beats were phat as hell, and for two his toasty flow sounds great over them. So who cares where the hell it came from just as long as it sounds good, and folks...It sounds SUPERB!

A lot more straight Reggae than his other CDs. And I think that is a great thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mr. Marley, I am humbled by your gifts, May 14, 2008

Mr. Marley, in the great Marley tradition, starts out with the easy tones we know of Marley dynasty. Damian Marley speaks the truth about social issues, peace, and consciousness. And the familiar refrain in "One Cup of Coffee, then I'll go" is an infectious, great song to sing along to. We need more music like this in the world. The CD is a complete statement, and while individual tunes are great to hear, like his other albums, it should be heard in its entirety. Too many people don't listen to CDs as a cohesive whole. Long live Marley Dynasty.

5.0 out of 5 stars INCREDIBLE!, December 14, 2008

I have been an avid fan of Bob Marley my whole life. I have also collected the recordings of his kids as they have sought to follow in their father's footsteps. Ziggy has made some decent discs, Stephen shows tremendous potential and a voice that mirrors his father, but Damian Jr. Gong is by far the most talented. His material is fresh and innovative, just like his father's material was. This album features nothing but great great songs. I cannot state in words how good it is.

When I ordered this CD I was looking forward to being able to tell the one star reviewer off a bit, but that is just not the case. I was horribly disappointed in this CD. I love everything Bob has done, I dig the Zig, Julian, Ky-Mani, and Stephen. Not all of their music is something I would listen to everyday, but there is nothing unpleasant about any of the music put out by the other sons of Bob. One reviewer here said Damien does the best job of any of the brothers. Maybe I wasn't high enough to appreciate "Jr Gong" ; maybe these other reviewers were REALLY high and reviewed the wrong CD? Most of the songs on this CD are terrible, repetitive remakes, rip offs and samplings of Bobs music. There are 4 original tunes here of those, Me Name Jr Gong would be OK, but he sampled Bob's "Tarzan yell" from Crazy Baldhead and used it as a rhythm device, over and over again. It got so annoying I had to skip the track. One More Cup of Coffee is original, just not that great. I liked Old War Chant, but it is borderline annoying. It is the only song on this CD that is anywhere near being good. Jr Gong spends lots of time rapping about Jr Gong and who is Ragamuffin? is it Damien too? This is horrible, childish music. It's like Dr Suess decided to write some reggae lyrics. Like I said, I wanted to like this album, I really did, then I wanted to find a few good songs on it. I failed at both. This CD should have never been released, I can't believe Stephen produced it. I can only think that Damien must of had some better ideas and Stephen said something like, "whatever bro, this is gonna suck." I suggest Ky-Mani's the Journey and Stephen Marley's Mind Control if you are looking for a good sound from one of the Sons of Bob (Other than Ziggy). Do not purchase this CD, it will be more enjoyable for you to just light some money on fire and watch it burn.
