3.0 out of 5 stars Based on Japanese version.
Having only played the Japanese version of this I think I lost something in not understanding the dialog but Im told it's rather humorous. It's originality is definitely the best the title has going for it, and while odd makes for a very fun game.
Except it's short...real short. I recommend renting it first. There is definitely re-playability but only if your not...

3.0 out of 5 stars Very Original Idea That Quickly Gets Repetitive, March 27, 2003
This review is from: Mr. Mosquito (Video Game)
Being a huge fan of games like "Typing of the Dead," "Crazy Taxi, and other out of the ordinary games that Sega was releasing for Dreamcast, (and still does, to a lesser extent it seems) I was interested in Mister Mosquito after I read some reviews in various publications. Finally, I rented it, and was pleased to diescover that it has one of the strangest premices for a videogame in a long time.
You play as, (you guessed it) a mosquito who has taken residence in a family of three's home, and has to stay alive by sucking their blood on a regular basis. The risk with sucking thier blood, of course, is that if you irritate them, and they notice you they'll either swat you, immediately killing you, or they'll want to battle you, and th only way to calm them down then is by flying into "relaxation points" on their body.
While, for fans of games that offer something new and different, this game quickly gets repetitive, and you may find yourself losing interest.
So my advice is to support this kind of game by going out and giving Mister Mosquito a rental. It is the perfect game for a five night rental.

3.0 out of 5 stars a unique game, but does unique equal good?, April 28, 2007
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Mr. Mosquito (Video Game)
so.. first off the first thing you'll notice about mr. mosquito is its strange sense of humor. after all, this is a japanese game.. the country who brought us katamari damacy! so i like that.

you fly around and have to suck blood from "hot spots" located on various parts of people's bodies. once you get the control scheme down, this is a fairly easy affair, and it's fun. the problem is, as some others have said, mr. mosquito quickly becomes repetitive and loses its quirky, fun appeal.

pros: graphics are pretty good for a PS2 game, it's fun to fly your mosquito around (and i don't even like flying games), you can turn off lights and turn on radios and see how the people get up and respond to that confusion.. quite unique idea, especially when you factor in things like the girl in the bathtub trying to shoo you away with her hair dryer.

cons: no controls tutorial (have to learn them yourself), quickly loses its unique appeal, cutscenes of the family talking before the level are boring, load times are too long

but overall the thing that made me put this game down and stop playing was a level where i couldn't find the "hot spot" on a girl. i kept thinking i saw it on her neck and then i'd get closer to her and it would disappear. maybe i was mistaken and seeing the light switch behind her.. but i have a low tolerance for frustration in games.

bottom line: this may or may not be worth a rental for you. gamefly has this game in stock, if you're a member. but i wouldn't spend much money on it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for a quick laugh, June 4, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Mr. Mosquito (Video Game)
This game is one of the most original concepts for a game that I have seen. However, it is extremely short. My friends and I rented a copy because we all wanted to try it... we beat it in a night. We had a good time playing it and making jokes about the "plot". But we were all let down by how quickly the last level came.
We all agreed it was a decent game... just short. I wouldn't pay too much for this game. Wait around and buy it used for around $...

2.0 out of 5 stars Forgettable Experience, June 27, 2003
This review is from: Mr. Mosquito (Video Game)
I rented this game a while back because of it's innovative idea. Control a mosquito, suck blood from members of a family of three, and stay alive through the summer.
Each level has you in a room with one member of the family, and has selected certain parts of their body for you to get a select amount of blood from. You have to be careful not to be spotted, or they'll swat you and strike you dead. Also, many of the levels feature obstacles like mosquito repellant and candles you have to watch out for.
But the problem is, that's the entire game. About twelve levels like this, (some of which will take many tries) that will only last you about two or three days at most.
The graphics are poor, the execution is strictly alright, so all in all, this game is nothing more than an interesting concept. Not really even worth a look, even for fans of weird games.

4.0 out of 5 stars Strange yet awesome game, November 11, 2011

I tried a demo of this game in the late 90's once. It stuck with me since then. It was such a strange and unique idea, I knew I needed to add it to my collection.

Overall the game is fun, but sometimes frustrating. While I find the perverted humor entertaining, the game play is a little frustrating at time. The collision detection is kinda weird, so the poor mosquito bumps into things constantly-- even when I swear I have him flying straight and he's not nearly as close to an object as a mosquito should be able to get. It makes it hard to hit some of the points on the humans in battle.

Still, overall, this is a really one of a kind game, and so strange. Bring this out and let friends play it. If they haven't ever played it before, enjoy their surprise.

This game is awesome. You're a mosquito flying around a single room in the house, trying to suck blood out of sweet spots on a Japanese family.

The controls take getting used to, but once you have them down the game becomes pretty fun.

There are things to collect around the room and a few stuff to unlock to give you something to do while exploring the levels.

VERY VOYEURISTIC. People will think you're weird if they watch you playing it without knowing what it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars HOOTERS!! Wait damn can't see them, April 2, 2002

This review is from: Mr. Mosquito (Video Game)
Mister Mosquito is one of those Japanese releases that came out in America based on the popularity it was receiving. In Mister Mosquito you take the role of a mosquito and start becoming a pest in a family household. The graphics are detailed enough to make you believe your in a real family household. The characters look real enough so that it makes you feel like you could step into the game. Controls are simple with you using the PS2 analog sticks to maneuver the mosquito and the O and shoulder buttons to do other natural in game stuff. Music is composed of generic beats that you usually hear from most games. In the end I must say I truly enjoy this game. Mister Mosquito should come as more of a rental however. Based upon how short of a game it is you should rent and then make a decision.
