5.0 out of 5 stars FUNNY FUNNY BOOK

The book is a combination Dave Barry and Irma Bombeck, looking at married life, that is loud laugh funny.

I particularly enjoyed the vignettes about the authors honeymoon at a leper colony with his wife 'Meg Ryan', the time the "naked gardener" wound up in the emergency room, and what happened when he bought his wife a coat 12 sizes too big. Also I can...

2.0 out of 5 stars A bit disappointed.
I expected a bit more after all the hype on "Fox and Friends". I am a fan of Steve Doocy's, but this book wasn't as entertaining as it was claimed to be. I read it in one sitting. I found myself 'pushing forward' in hopes to get to the good parts that everyone raved about, but I never quite found the humor. It's an OK read for a rainy afternoon (or when you're just...

5.0 out of 5 stars FUNNY FUNNY BOOK, October 18, 2006

The book is a combination Dave Barry and Irma Bombeck, looking at married life, that is loud laugh funny.

I particularly enjoyed the vignettes about the authors honeymoon at a leper colony with his wife 'Meg Ryan', the time the "naked gardener" wound up in the emergency room, and what happened when he bought his wife a coat 12 sizes too big. Also I can identify with him volunteering to coach his son's team, because nobody else would put his kid in the game.

I've seen this guy on the news, but I had no idea he was this FUNNY!

And there's actually a heart and soul to this book that leaves a positively great feeling about marriage.

This is now my official wedding gift (with a fifty taped inside). I've ordered copies for my my wife's sister, my parents, hers, and friends who are getting married in November.

I might start watching this guy more on tv, to see if he's this funny in real life!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious: You're About To Laugh So Hard - So Make Sure You're Close To A Bathroom!, October 19, 2006
Hilarious!

This happens to be one of the funniest, and perhaps most useful books I have read in a long time! Yes, the world knows that boys and girls are different: our perspectives, our needs, and the way we communicate; however, in `The Mr. & Mrs. Happy Handbook: Everything I Know About Love and Marriage (with corrections by Mrs. Doocy)' by Steve Doocy I can't recall when a book celebrating the differences allowed the reader to remember one simple rule of life for which I think most individuals get married for: be happy!

Starting out with girl meets boy, or boy meets girl, or boy meets boy, or girl meets girl - whatever: marriage is the beginning of INTENDED long term happiness through partnership. Yet, there's this thing we all face: LIFE! Crap happens! How we deal with it . . . before the kids sets the pace. Doocy is trying and succeeding to share with us all not to take things too seriously, have a little compassion, and laugh as much as you can regardless of what happens. Be flexible. Then more stuff happens: CHILDREN! More flexibility is required! Doocy delivers such interesting stories relating to the life of marriage and children, that there's many things here for many different readers.

Cleverly dissecting most events married (or formerly married) individuals and parents alike can relate to, `The Mr. & Mrs. Happy Handbook: Everything I Know About Love and Marriage (with corrections by Mrs. Doocy)', is filled with such funny one-line zingers and hilariously awkward situations that readers who are married or intending to get married should truly consider running out and reading this most enjoyable book! I would like to provide one helpful hint to all readers before you begin reading: make sure you don't drink much liquid and make sure there's a bathroom close by! Who knew Doocy was so funny?! I may have to reconsider this whole thing of marriage myself one day soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious and helpful, October 30, 2006
Even though my wife and I have been married almost twice as long as Steve Doocy (37 years, and countiing), it never hurts to get someone else's take on how to have a happy marriage. Steve is a very funny fellow, and I enjoy watching him every weekday morning on "Fox and Friends". He adds some brightness into any morning that appears gloomy to me, and his book does the same. His take on marriage, with all its fun and follies rings quite true, and the humor with which he presents it softens any heavy lesson being put across. All I can say is that his wife must be one outstanding lady to have lived with him all of these years, but I feel the same way about my own wife: why do such tremendous women select guys like Steve and me? Just one of life's little mysteries!

5.0 out of 5 stars Funniest book I've read in a long time..., October 20, 2006

I really enjoyed this book. Doocy's humor is so random and dead-on when it comes to marriage, diapers, and snakes. It's a perfect wedding gift, and cheaper than china.

5.0 out of 5 stars laugh as your sides split open and tears of laughter empty the Kleenex, October 29, 2006
This is a fantastic, funny, all-so-important to newlyweds and us older weds. The humor, brilliant writings from Mr. and Mrs. Happy themselves and of the others are witty. In this axis of evil world we live in, we need more HAPPY books to lift up our spirits. I kept a box of Kleenex nearby as I laughed so hard mytears kept tearing. Buy it for the holidays as this is a winner that everyone should read. What a hoot. Noreen

5.0 out of 5 stars Steve....the ultimate humorist!, October 20, 2006
Being an avid fan of Fox & Friends already, having watched it for years & years, when I knew Steve was writing a book - first thing I thought, this will be a smash hit! He's hilarious on the show and I knew that it would leak over to his book. I had to get a copy & was the first one in my town that bought one! Unfortunately, not with an autograph :(((

Steve's done a great job combining love, marriage & humor - and splicing them together for a happy & successful marriage. Way to go Steve!

I found myself 'pushing forward' in hopes to get to the good parts that everyone raved about, but I never quite found the humor. It's an OK read for a rainy afternoon (or when you're just sitting, awaiting for your child's dance practice to end). Get it from a friend or the local library. Not worth buying for your own personal library.

I actually found myself laughing outloud!!

Kudos to Mr. Happy and the Doocy Family!

5.0 out of 5 stars CPE or Steve Doocy??, October 28, 2006
By
Erika Grace (Tampa, Florida) - See all my reviews
I cracked open the Doocys' book at a (shockingly!) boring continuing education class for CPAs last week (I am a CPA turned executive recruiter). All I have to say is: THEIR BOOK IS TOO FUNNY! While sitting in my seat pretending to seem engrossed in the materials provided at the seminar, I actually had to close the book at page 27. I was laughing so hard to myself that my eyes were tearing (ie: honeymoon leper colony). Trust me the laughter did not fit the discussion about IRS fraudsters! Just as the next break was announced, the man sitting next to me asked what I was reading, while the people in front of us turned around to listen in. Well, I showed them the book and highly recommended they buy it. I LOVE the book and I finished it this week. As I mentioned to Steve in an email I sent him, I WAS ABLE TO ADVERTISE THE BOOK, JUST BY READING IT!

4.0 out of 5 stars entertaining and life lessons, all in one!!, March 13, 2007
Marriage takes hard work and then children become a part of it.........and the work gets harder!!! The good side is that the rewards become even greater!!
This is an hilarious look at marriage through the (sometimes!!) quite different viewpoints of a husband and wife "team". As you read this book and learn about the Doocy's life, from the Wedding day tales to the Honeymoon, from the challenges of parenthood, birth through college (and then more!!) to the very real challenges of a long term forever relationship, this is a wonderful story. They also take on topics of a mature nature, such as "The Love Machine by Kenmore" or the neighborhood swingers and their invitation, to the important area of troubleshooting a marriage. Steve Doocy makes his life an open book (literally) that talks about the confusing communications that can and do go on between a married couple. He reveals the great joy and deep love that they find in their relationship , with all the ups and downs and the hard work that goes into nurturing, building and keeping it all going. It seems that one of the "magic" ingredients is a strong sense of humor, the ability to laugh at our own flaws and a deep sense of respect and honor for each other that is never allowed to waiver!
I really enjoyed this. Just to clarify, I am married 30 years (yes to the same man!!), 4 children, one son-in-law and a grandchild. Good things take hard work, great things take even more!!!
