excellent mainstream, April 30, 2009
Al Cohn, a great tenor sax player of west-coast-swing-mainstream persuasion stars and arranges most of the tracks of this very rewarding album... Aided by excellent brass and reeds men he must have been very proud by this album... They explore various moods and swing throughout.
Essentially a big band album with a lighter touch, "Mr Music" features only one trumpet, but it's Joe Newman, so no need to worry, the trumpet chair is filled well. Very nice ensemble work, with some oh-so-lovely solos, "Mr Music" is highly recommended jazz experience.
