Heartwrenching. Emotional. Hot. That sums up the last of the “Men to the Rescue” trilogy from author Lori Foster. And saving the best for last, she delivers a story worthy of the man in the hero’s shoes.

I recently read Lori Foster's "Luring Lucy" from this anthology Real Men Last All Night -I passed this along to a friend, in exchange she gave me this book. I don't read many Harlequin novels but, she said it was a good read ~~I agree. It has a great story and it is well written.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Story Worthy of a Hero, October 31, 2001
Heartwrenching. Emotional. Hot. That sums up the last of the “Men to the Rescue” trilogy from author Lori Foster. And saving the best for last, she delivers a story worthy of the man in the hero’s shoes.

Josh Marshall, firefighter and man about town, never missed a chance to razz his best friends when the love bug caught them. But when the tables are turned and the hunky fireman falls head over heels for the woman bent on including him in her charity calendar, it’s a whole different story. He knows that below Amanda Barker’s frosty exterior is a woman waiting for the right man to awaken her passion and he knows that he’s the one.

Amanda has a secret. One that keeps her from enjoying life to the fullest, that drives her to help others, that keeps her from getting close to any man. She’s absolutely sure that Josh Marshall will prove no different. She’s heard about his past; he’s known as quite the lady’s man. But he’s out to prove her wrong. And with the right woman, we watch Josh grow into a caring, sensitive and very patient lover.

The axiom “The bigger they are, the harder they fall” is certainly true in Josh’s case and when it’s his turn at the altar of love, he doesn’t like it one bit when his friends, Mick and Zack, razz him the same way he’d done to them on many occasions. His testiness makes him believable and endearing.

The dialogue’s snappy and the love scenes are hotter than hot. And Ms. Foster has no equal when it comes to creating friendship, camaraderie and the sometimes wackiness that exists between men who are closer than brothers, bonded together, in this case, through their professions.

In the Dear Reader section in the front of the book, Ms. Foster tells us about her research for the story and how it led to meeting the man who heads up the South Florida Firefighter’s Calendar Project. At this time in our history, when the loss of many of these brave men in New York City is still so vivid in our minds and weighs heavy on our hearts, the chance to help others who have been victims of fires was one I couldn’t pass up. 5.0 out of 5 stars Touching and sexy!!, March 4, 2002

Firefighter Josh Marshall wants Amanda Barker! And she wants him--to pose for her calendar. When they get together to talk it over, Josh sees beyond Amanda's cool, uninvolved exterior. He knows that she is emotionally scarred from something in her past and that she is fighting her feelings for him because she thinks she doesn't deserve anything good in her life.

Josh's heart breaks every time her pain surfaces and once he realizes he loves her he accepts his fate & determines to make her happy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sparks fly -- Very highly recommended, November 24, 2001
Amanda Barker devotes most of her nonworking hours to charity work. She's currently putting together a calendar that incorporates a different firefighter for each month of the year to benefit a local burn institute. The calendar is virtually complete, lacking only Mr. November. Josh Marshall would make the perfect model for the month, if only he would stop saying no.

When her request becomes personal, Amanda can't back down. She doesn't want Josh to see her panic every time he comes too close. Seven years ago Amanda made a promise to herself, swearing to make reparation in the only way left to her, allowing her to live with memories and overwhelming guilt.

In an interesting twist on role reversal, Josh doesn't like the idea of posing for a calendar because it makes him into a sex object rather than valuing the work he performs. Beneath Amanda prissy exterior, Josh senses a woman filled with fear. Her elegant control embodies the opposite elements that he find attractive in women, yet he's attracted to Amanda in the strongest way.

Josh wants to Amanda from a sweet, refined, classy recluse to the wild and unreserved woman he believes her to be. He hadn't meant to delve into her past or confront her ghosts, but seeing her fear makes him involved. Indeed, Amanda stymies Josh, but he's up to the challenge. He agrees to model for her calendar if she'll agree to his courtship.

Lori Foster's unmatchable talent for creating sparkling characterizations once again shines in MR. NOVEMBER. As playboy hero Josh meets his match in petite Amanda, sparks fly. Josh doesn't hesitate to commit himself to Amanda, despite a string of women and wild reputation. Nor does he dodge the tremendous burden of guilt that has paralyzed her for so long. As Josh's warmth brings healing, Amanda strokes a shared heat that threatens to blaze out of control. In addition, Foster successfully reintroduces favorite characters from the previous two novels of the series, providing unobtrusive updates on favorite characters, thereby allowing their presence to enrich the storyline. Very highly recommended.

I just loved the change in Josh from the previous 2 books (Caught in the act & Treat her right). Amanda is a very scarred young woman who cannot get involved with any man. That is until she meets Josh. In the previous books Josh justs loves women & lots of them. When he finds out the reason of Amanda's trauma he becomes one of the most wonderful, caring man she has ever known. It is a very moving story & one I will always remember. I do hope this is not the end of Mick, Del, Zach, Wynn, Danni, Josh & Amanda in future books. I just love all the charachters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book and Great Characters!, December 1, 2001
By A Customer
Wow - Lori Foster has a flair for writing great characters. They seem so real - with real life hang ups. Amanda is a complex woman - that you could imagine in real life.. as well as Jpsh. The dialogue taht Lori gives Josh is so "real life" he really sounds like a 27 year old modern guy. I am now a devoted Lori Foster Fan!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mr November, November 5, 2001

This is a wonderful story of heros that we all forget about unless we need them - Firefighters. They are quiet heros along with their brothers the EMT's and we never actually think about them as human beings, they're just there when we call. In this story we are introduced to Josh Marshall a Lieutenant in the Fire Department and Amanda Barker the person in charge of a Fund Raising Calendar with proceeds going to a burn center. We see Josh as a bachelor that never had to worry about having his private life lively. There have never been a lack of females willing to make him happy and he does like variety. Amanda on the other hand does not want any relationships in her life and is blunt in stating that fact. Now what happens when you tell someone that they can't have something? They immediately want it as Josh does. But as he gets to know Amanda better he starts to realize that there is more under the Fund Raising than helping those in need. He also comes to terms that variety is not always what it is cracked up to be. Finding out what is under all of those layers of Amanda's heart is going to be a lifetime job and Josh is finding that he likes the idea of permanency with Amanda. Now to convince her. Is this Firefighter up to it? You well get to know and love these characters because Ms. Foster shows us through them that we are all human and make mistakes. It is what we learned from them and how we live our lives afterwards that show how well we retained the lesson.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of Ms. Foster's BEST, November 6, 2001
By
Once again Lori Foster has crafted a hero who melts as well as warms your heart.

Josh was first introduced in CAUGHT IN THE ACT and we got to know him a bit better in TREAT HER RIGHT & now in MR. NOVEMBER we get to know him in all his glory. The opening scene is one of the best I've read in quite a while.

He is intrigued by Amanda Barker. She simply won't take his "NO" for an answer. She is determined to have him as a part of her charity calendar. Josh has plans of his own in dealing with Amanda. The sparks fly between these two & it's a good thing that Josh is a fireman or things might get too heated!

Amanda is dealing with a difficult past & is unsure of exactly what Josh wants from her. She is most definitely a unique challenge for our hero.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a well crafted hero. Ms. Foster always brings a unique insight to her men. This is a terrific read!

4.0 out of 5 stars LOVED IT!, January 19, 2011

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I loved this book! I adored Amanda and felt sad for her story. And Josh was hot. He knew he was good looking and wasn't afraid to admit it; but he wasn't over conceited.

I actually wish the book was a little longer so that it was more drawn out to make it more believable. But, such as it is, its still a wonderful book. Great, quick read.

Amanda Barker wanted Lieutenant Josh Marshell to pose for her fireman calendar, in support of burn victims. Josh was not interested in being a beefcake and wanted nothing to do with the calendar. But Amanda was unrelenting in her determination, so Josh turned the tables on her - he decided that he wanted her. She had fears and secrets, Josh was determined to uncover - no matter what.
