3.0 out of 5 stars Where is the romance?
Read this if you enjoy comedy, dialogue, and suspense. But, I was a bit disappointed in the romance part. This was my first Linda Howard book. It won't be my last, but I was somewhat disappointed.

The dialogue was uproarious, and they characters were appealing (Sam was hot hot hot). The plot was attention-grabbing too. However, I felt like the book was a...

Mr. Perfect may not be the perfect book, but it comes close. After being disappointed with John Medina's character in All The Queen's Men (after falling hard for him in Kill And Tell), I wasn't too sure about this book. But Detective Sam Donovan is definitely my idea of a yummy neighbor to have, especially when you're being stalked because you and your friends compiled a silly little list about the perfect man.

I loved the interaction (verbal and sexual) between Sam and Jaine - they are one great couple! And you know you're reading a great book when you mourn a character who's been murdered! I loved Jaine's friends and her sister, Shelly, is a hoot! Even Corin, an incredibly creepy individual, generates equal parts horror and sympathy. Bravo for a job well done!

Ms. Howard has redeemed herself in my eyes and I hope this style of writing is a trend. Can't wait for the next book. Also out this month is A Game Of Chance and it's not too early to start begging for Margreta's story to be told.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mr. Perfect is a perfect hit!, July 24, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Mr. Perfect (Hardcover)
Linda Howard will not disappoint her legions of fans with her latest romantic suspense, Mr. Perfect. The key word here is romantic. A lot of her faithful readers, including me, were disheartened by her last book, All the Queen's Men, because much of the romantic tension (which is her hallmark) seemed to be missing. Not so in Mr. Perfect.

The plot revolves around a list of attributes that make up the perfect man-- a list concocted by four female co-workers and friends at their regular Friday-night, afterwork, unwind-with a-few-drinks get together. The List is righteous and raunchy. It becomes a hot topic of water cooler conversation after it is leaked and appears in a renegade company newsletter and on the Internet. What follows is an avalanche of publicity and attention as everyone in first the region, then the nation is talking about the List. It also catches the attention of a psychopath who is determined to eliminate the List ladies, one by one.

The heroine, Jaine Bright, enlists the assistance of her sexy cop neighbor, Sam Donovan, when she fears that she and her friends are in mortal danger. Jaine is funny and smart with a wicked wit and a gutter mouth that she is trying desperately to clean up. Sam is strong, hunky and gives as good as Jaine in the verbal jabs department. The romance develops between the two like slow foreplay-- its simmers, sizzles and finally explodes. Unlike the heroine and hero in All the Queen's Men, Sam and Jaine are together throughout the book as they spar, kiss, make love and attempt to find the killer.

Despite the grim premise, this book is funnier and more lighthearted than previous Linda Howard novels. Granted there are some very sad scenes, but the dialogue and characterizations throughout kept me laughing. The friendship among the four woman was also well-drawn and captured the laughter, loyalty, empathy and yes raunchiness that women who are good friends can display with each other.

I enjoyed Mr. Perfect immensely, was sad to see it end, and can't wait for her next book!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book I've read all year!!, October 5, 2000
This review is from: Mr. Perfect (Hardcover)
This was my first Linda Howard book and it won't be my last! I bought it on a whim in hardcover, which is something I usually don't do, but this book was worth it!

Jaine Bright and her 3 friends meet after work on Friday night and create a list of what the perfect man would be. Soon after, that the List gets public attention and almost overnight makes the women stars. One by one the women start to get murdered and Jaine soon realizes she's next.

In the midst of all the suspense and mystery, Jaine starts a hot and heavy romance with her hunky neighbor, Sam who happens to be a detective. Together they try to discover who the killer is before it's too late.

This book is the perfect mix of mystery, romance, and humor. Jaine is probably the best fictional character I've read in awhile. She's tough as nails with a sense of humor to match! You can't help but laugh out loud reading some of the dialog between Jaine and Sam. I wish that Ms. Howard would make a series out of these characters because I sure would enjoy reading about them again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best one yet!, July 29, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Mr. Perfect (Hardcover)
This book was well worth the hard cover price. Once I picked it up I could not put it down. The dialouge was so witty I was laughing out loud. I even read some of the better conversations Jaine and Sam had to my husband and had him laughing. I love the fact that Linda Howards characters are hot! I get tired of the tepid love scenes in other novels. I agree with one reviewer that the murderer was a bit easy to figure out but other than that I have to say that Mr. Perfect was just about PERFECT!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Yet!, July 31, 2000
This review is from: Mr. Perfect (Hardcover)
I absolutely loved this book. I'm used to more intense books from Linda Howard, but humorous books have always been my favorite. She sure did come through on this one. At times I was laughing so hard, I'm sure people thought I had something wrong with me. As far I'm concerned, Sam Donavon is Mr. Perfect! The character of Jaine was fantastic as well. I'd love to see another book starring this outrageous couple.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot! Hot! Hot!, July 25, 2000
This review is from: Mr. Perfect (Hardcover)
Linda Howard has created a masterpiece in her new novel, Mr. Perfect. You might as well plan on kicking back with uninterrupted time to read this book straight through. The characters are wonderful, the dialogue sizzles, and the sex is hot!

Jaine Bright and her three friends from work meet every Friday night for drinks, dinner, and girl talk, which we all know from experience usually turns into man bashing. During the course of dinner, they start discussing the perfect man and list the characteristics they think Mr. Perfect should have. As you can imagine, the list starts out seriously, then ends up discussing phyiscal endowments. Their list inadvertently becomes public knowledge. First in the company's newsletter, then on a website, and finally the media gets hold of it. At first the women try to keep their identity secret so no one will know who is behind "The List" as it has become known. When their coworkers figure out who is behind "The List", their lives become chaotic--women applaud them, men feel threatened. They decide to go public hoping all the media blitz will dies down. Little do they know they have offended someone who takes a murderous view of Mr. Perfect.

The dialogue and sexual tension in this book between Jaine and her neighbor, Sam Donovan, is unbelievable. The snappy one liners had me cracking up throughout the entire book. Both Jaine and Sam are strong characters who strike sparks off each other. The bond between the four women will touch your heart.

The beginning of this book threw me off when I started reading it. The opening prologue is eeries and gave me the creeps. Then with the first chapter, it's almost like you're reading a comedy for the first half of the book--then the suspense starts in the second half. I don't know how Ms. Howard managed to combine comedy and suspense, but believe me, she did a fantastic job of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Linda Howard Fan, August 24, 2000
By
Gerri Wise (Killeen, Texas USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mr. Perfect (Hardcover)
I picked up Linda Howard's Mr. Perfect, because the title of the book caught my eye. Having been a fan of the mystery genre for quite some time now, I was looking for a new author to discover. Mr. Perfect combines the three elements that I like in a novel: comedy, suspense and a love interest. I had never read any of Ms. Howard's novels before but I intend to go back and discover this author. I liked the chemistry between Sam and Jaine. I particularly liked Sam's character: roughneck but very caring and sensitive. Jaine reminds me a lot of myself. I often have to put a quarter in the cuss can at work for swearing. As for the plot of the story I couldn't decide whether I wanted to read more about Sam and Jaine or find out who the killer was. I found myself taking Mr. Perfect to the bathroom, to the kitchen and even got caught reading it while I was supposed to be working. I couldn't put the book down. I hope to see more of Sam and Jaine in the future and look forward to reading more Linda Howard.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Linda Howard ever!!!, August 4, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Mr. Perfect (Hardcover)
This is the best book by Ms. Howard in my humble opinion. Before, I was always enchanted mostly by her male characters because they were such dark and dangerous guys, but this time, Ms. Howard livened things up with a very interesting heroine. Instead of the deeply emotional heroines of the past, Ms. Howard gave us Jaine Bright, a feisty woman in her thirties with a dirty mouth and a passion for fast cars. How could I not like this character when I discovered she drove a Dodge Viper? My advice is to buy this book because the sizzling between Jaine and Sam is true to Ms. Howards previous style, but enhanced by Jaine's independent nature. I couldn't put it down and am already reading it a second time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the best hero and heroine from Linda Howard yet, July 24, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Mr. Perfect (Hardcover)
Alleluiah! This book redeems Linda Howard's recent hardbacks with the most crackling pair of lovers she's put together in a long time. The timing and pacing really set up the story and the dialogue was laugh outloud funny. I felt this story delivered on the promise that the last three novels hinted at -- Mr. Perfect is a much more even and evenly developed story -- the romance, the threat and the characters. If you love Linda Howard, you'll love this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read, August 31, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Mr. Perfect (Hardcover)
This is the first Linda Howard book I have ever read, and I must say I enjoyed every minute of it. I simply could not put the book down and now I am very disappointed that I have finished it. I can hardly wait to run out to the store and buy a couple more of her books.

In Mr. Perfect, you get a good mix of mystery thriller, romance and comedy. While you can pretty much figure out who the killer is before the end, you dont get bored with the book, there is so much still going on and the chemistry between Sam and Jaine will keep you reading.

Great book, I would recommend it to all my friends.
