Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 2-From a neighborly distance, Zeke seems to be a "dream dog." So, when Mrs. Teaberry, his owner, hurts her foot, her friend Mr. Putter does not hesitate to volunteer to walk him. At the end of a leash, however, the little bulldog is a "nightmare." He tugs, tangles, and chases "big dogs." Mr. Putter, always accompanied by his cat, resorts to bribes of just the sort (ice cream, swimming pools, carnivals, and zoos) that tempt children to good behavior. Mr. Putter at last returns Zeke, and he and Tabby celebrate. This beginning-reader chapter book has a brief text (with a few words readers might have to stretch for), plenty of repetitive phrases, and lots of visual clues. Howard's illustrations are breezy, watercolor-and-pencil cartoons that extend the humor and give comic life to the mischievous canine, the earnest cat, and the hapless humans. Another winner from Rylant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mr. Putter and Tabby Walk the Dog, April 6, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Mr. Putter & Tabby Walk the Dog (Paperback)
Simple language and a hilarious storyline make this book perfect for the voracious or the reluctant reader. Mr. Putter and his cat tabby are a delightful pair, and their encounter with the neighbor's nightmare pooch will have kids laughing aloud. The accompanying illustrations only add to the text.

Perfect for children to read on their own, or with the help of a parent (because parents will find these stories equally charming).

This review is from: Mr. Putter & Tabby Walk the Dog (Paperback)
The Mr. Putter and Tabby books are all wonderful. We bought the books several years ago when my oldest child was learning to read now they have been passed down twice and all three of my children simply love them. They are humorous and enjoyable. Would recommend them 100%
