5.0 out of 5 stars Mr. Rhythm, indeed!!!, September 19, 2003

This review is from: Mr Rhythm (Audio CD)
This is the most swinging studio album I have ever heard. Freddie Green is without a doubt the greatest rhythm guitarist that ever lived, and he propels the entire band with his subtle four to a bar strumming. I was expecting a layed-back, swinging album in the Basie tradition when I bought this album. What I didn't expect was the fantastic arrangements and superior musicianship by all those on the recording. This band is extremely tight, and the solos by Al Cohn and Joe Newman are thrilling, to say the least. Also, the peerless Jo Jones swings out on the drums like only he could. This recording is highly recommended for those who wish to hear small-group swing at its absolute best.
