nother no brainer,
This review is from: Mr. Scruff (Audio CD)
usually i'd wait a while before writing a review, but this is top notch trip hop. i use the term trip hop because he uses it on his website. most of his songs are fun and a little up tempo, but chill at the same time. This is a great album and would definitely recommend this to any fan of trip hop or hip hop

Fever!!!!,
By Henry Stonehall "Henry Stonehall" (London, UK) - See all my reviews

We live in a post-clubbing era, when no one seriously suggests that DJs can become superstars any more. Yet Manchester's Mr Scruff has seen his star rise in recent years. He represents the perfect antidote to the cult of the superstar DJ: a self-effacing figure, he sells cups of tea at his live shows and festoons his sleeves with cartoons. Despite a lack of media coverage and his nonexistent image, his sets have become major events, attracting the sort of devoted follower who was supposed to have deserted the dance floor long ago.

Mr. Scruff - Mr. Scruff,
This review is from: Mr Scruff (Audio CD)
While Mr. Scruff's eponymous debut may be a little rough around the edges, the personality comes through bright and clear. The cheeky samples, coupled with funky hip-hop rhythms and playful instrumentation, make for pure listening pleasure. Though the loops are simple and lack his later sophistication (like on "Tubby Mechanical Friend"), an undoubted sense of fun emerges. "Chicken in a Box" is a perfect example, starting off with a wicked flute, then swinging into a string and beats workout. "Night Time" goes for some jazzy breaks, the soundtrack to your evening's pleasures (or, conversely, you could try "Jazz Potato"). The flying arms and legs of "Limbic Funk" make for a strangely sexy time. The album shows its age but is only the more groundbreaking for it.
