Mr. Was is overlooked,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Mr. Was (Mass Market Paperback)
When my teacher first suggested it to me I was very sceptical. She had said it was her favorite book she read but it didn't defeat the fact that it was about traveling through a "magical door" that takes yo through time. But I got into it very fast. You try to hold all the facts together and try to understand everything but it will all come as a shock to you in the end for it has a plot twist that rivals that of the Sixth Sense. So many undesserving books aer higher than this in the Booklist. It makes me so upset that some great books (such as this one) get overlooked.

Mr. Was is a confusing, exciting book. It won't let you set it down. You will love this book, but you might get lost once in a while, but towards the end it will all make sense. Peter Hautman is a talanted author, and I would suggest you read some of his other books, too.

Intelligent reading for teens,
By
This review is from: Mr. Was (Mass Market Paperback)
I happened upon on old Advance Reader's Copy at my local used bookstore today and read it straight through. This is a terrific time travel mystery for teens. Mr. Hautman uses the device of having 'found' the writings, journals, and government papers that make up the novel. The whole package works well - Jack (Mr. Was) is a character that readers will care very much about. The mystery is convoluted enough to keep the reader's mental skills challenged, and all of the questions and story elements are tied up well at the end. I particularly liked the fact that the Boggs family's disappearance is is reintroduced at the novel's conclusion. It gives the reader a whole other time travel mystery that he or she can speculate about. This would be great for a teen reading group, there are many social issues and imaginative questions posed in this novel.

This book is a perfect mix of everything! It was amazing how the whole thing just came together at the end, but you were still so wonderfully confused. I loved the way it was written in "notebooks" becsause it made Jack's life sound SO real! The plot was so gripping it was almost impossible to put down, and it was the perfect book to read if you love books about time travel that will confuse but hook you. There are many suprises that never in a million years would you expect.A must read book for anyone who loves to have their imagination streached!

umm yeah...wow,
This review is from: Mr. Was (Hardcover)
I First read MR WAS in while I was in high school. I was surprised by the story line taking twist and turns in directions you couldn't even imagine. Unlike most stories with a theme of time travel MR. WAS connects the end to the beginning so everything adds up in an absolutely fabulous way. I actually enjoyed the book so much I took it upon my self to liberate it from the school library after which I loaned it to several of my friends the last friend I recommended it to lifted it from me.

This review is from: Mr. Was (Mass Market Paperback)
I read this book a few years ago and still think about it all the time. This is a must read for everyone, even if you don't like (or get) the concept of time travel. This story has such a twisted plot; the ending actually gave me goosebumps. Making this review has made me realize that I want to read this book again, and I will.

time travel to rescue a family member,

This review is from: Mr. Was (Mass Market Paperback)
After Jack witnesses his mother's brutal murder by his alcoholic father, he travels through a mysterious door in his grandfather's home and ends up in an earlier time. He decides to grow up there, so that in 55 years he can prevent his mother's death, but a jealous friend and World War II stand in his way. The story is told very effectively by a series of four notebooks found in 1952. Suspense and mystery will keep the reader glued to this book until the end, when all of the pieces of the puzzle eventually come together. Fans of science fiction and the theme of time travel will love this book. If you enjoyed this book, try _Stone Cold_, by the same author...a wonderful book about the addiction of gambling.

I was completely attracted to the book by the first page. This mesmerizing book deserves a five star award! I liked the way the author had a twist to the plot! It made the book harder to follow but once you read it it all fell together!
