Just what an elementary librarian needs!,
By "pmjames@burke.k12.nc.us" (Morganton, NC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mr. Wiggle's Book (Early Childhood) (Hardcover)
Mr. Wiggle's Book is a very useful tool for the elementary school librarian who is trying to make sure that children take care of their library books. The illustrations are wonderful and very realistic. I have used this book in a story time situation and the children really thought that someone had written or torn this book. After using this book, the children really seem to enjoy making sure that their library books don't end up like Mr. Wiggle's.

The Best Book Ever Read to Children!,
By Heather Johnson (Fieldbrook, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mr. Wiggle's Book (Hardcover)
This is my all time favorite book! When I was a child, I would get so excited about going back to school. Why? I knew on the first day of school, our Librarian would be reading to our class, "Mr. Wiggles". She would have a special "Mr. Wiggles" voice, and we all loved hearing it. When we reached the fourth grade, the Librarian said she'd no longer be reading "Mr. Wiggles" to us. We were so dissapointed, and asked her to continue. We made sure she knew we would never be too old for "Mr. Wiggles". Now that I am grown, and have a young child of my own, I read it to him. It is my son's favorite book, and our favorite time together. This book, and that Librarian, gave me the love of reading. Hopefully, it will do the same for my children. Read this book to your kids, and you will give them the gift of literacy.

Great for library media specialists, however...,
This review is from: Mr. Wiggle's Book (Hardcover)
I've used this book for the past 4 years with my K and 1st graders. It is very useful for teaching at the beginning of the year about bookcare. My "however" refers to the binding. Pages started to fall out my 2nd year using this book. That was after aproximately 10 readings. I am now on my second tape job, after another 10 readings or so. I was hoping that I'd find this library bound at this point, but it doesn't look that I way. I'll have to check into one of the re-binding companies (Turtleback, Permabound, etc) for it, I guess.

I read this to my library students!,

This book is perfect for the first day of library. Mr. Wiggle is the library's bookworm. He tells a story of what people have done to his books. The rhyming words will capture the child's attention. After the book is finished, the children know what not to do to a book...write in it, tear the pages, leave it outside, eat on it, etc.
The book is ideal for pre-kindergarten to first grade students who are new to checking out books.

Mr. Wiggle's By Paula Craig,
This review is from: Mr. Wiggle's Book (Hardcover)
This book is a must have for every elementary and Children's
library. Tells about taking care of the books children check out of the library. And the kids love listening to the story and talking about how to take good care of books.

Mr. Wiggle's book is a great way to introduce and review correct care of library books. The illustrations are bright and colorful and the language is easily understood by small children. The kids in my library loved it!

Library lessons on care of books,

This book is excellent. In the past I have collected damaged books to show students what not to do with books. The illustrations of tears, fingerprints, scribbles, etc. are very real looking. This is great to use when teaching the early grades how not to treat books.

I was just here reading through the reviews of my mother's book, "Mr Wiggles." I recall from my younger days when she was writing this book (which was originally illustrated by her friend Fran Starret) and it's wonderful to read all the positive comments.Mom passed away on Oct 30, 2011. She will be missed by many.

I purchased both books together right when they came off the press! They are excellent! Carol Thompson is a great author and captivates the subject for the students to learn about the library and care for the books. Patti
