4.0 out of 5 stars Weights work well, but "container" is worthless
The pie weights work well -- either because of ceramic properties or the fact they simply weigh more, but a smaller amount does the job of holding the crust in place and the result seems to be that the crust bakes more evenly. (When I used dry beans, the bottom of the crust always seemed to lag behind in the baking.)

3.0 out of 5 stars Work fine, but poorly packaged
I bought these to replace the jar of dried beans that I had been using. The beans were starting to get hard to wash and stayed just a bit greasy. I was concerned about the oil becoming rancid and affecting the taste of the pies. The ceramic seem to be heavier than the beans and may work a bit better. Dropped to 3 stars because the packaging was poorly done. I...

Only complaint: the manufacturer's claim that "packaging can be used for storage" is absurd. The plastic packaging might be re-usable for some purpose, but it's virtually impossible to get the beads back into the package without spilling. I use a ball jar.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gets the job done!, December 26, 2008

I have used these pie weights two times now and have found them to be quite effective. I was a bit apprehensive b/c I had read a review saying that they did not cover a 9 inch pie pan. I have used these weights on two different 9 inch pie pans and have found them to provide good coverage. One pie pan was a glass pyrex 9 inch and the other was a hand made ceramic type. The ceramic pan, although stated to be 9 inch seemed to have a wider footprint, with steeper sides, than the pyrex. I put the rolled out pie dough in my pie pan, covered it with aluminum foil, and then put the pie weights in the foil (as recommended by my Martha Stewart recipe). In both instances, my crust came out evenly baked and flat. A good buy for the money and if you qualify for the free super shipping, even better!

Dropped to 3 stars because the packaging was poorly done. I ordered 2 sets and both of them had broken open in transit and where rolling around inside the box when I got it. Who knows if any "escaped".

5.0 out of 5 stars Success ! No more burned edges or puffy pie centres !, May 22, 2009
This review is from: Mrs. Anderson's Baking Ceramic Pie Weights (Kitchen)
I purchased pie shields and pie weights recently and love them all !I can now leave the kitchen without fear of my pies burning on the edges, and without the centres being puffed like a cake.

These ceramic pie weights do exactly what they're supposed to do - keep a pie crust from bubbling and shrinking when it's "blind" baked. If you make a lot of pies, these will make your life a lot easier! The only thing I've noticed is that you may have to bake the pie crust a little longer so the bottom will be fully cooked.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Idea!, January 21, 2009

I didn't know about these usfull little things, and I like them much better than beans or rice. I felt that a few more in a package would give better crust coverage though

4.0 out of 5 stars Very effective, November 26, 2008

I use the pie weights when I "blind" bake pie shells before filling them. They do a fine job of keeping the pie dough where it should be while it bakes.

5.0 out of 5 stars They work!, September 13, 2008

It took me a long time to finally decide to invest in baking weights - and I'm glad I did! It really is so much easier to bake pie crusts!

These were coated with white chalk-like dust when I opened the package. The case doesn't hold them after it's opened, either. They spilled inside my cabinet drawer because the lid on the case wouldn't stay closed. I will buy another kind.

These worked exceptionally well and are now a staple in my baking experiences. It's important to rinse these thoroughly before the first use - they're pretty dusty. Also, get a different container for storage. The package is useless for storage, unless you're putting them in a bag first.
