From Gold Digger to Housewife,
This review is from: Mrs. Big (Paperback)
Maryann Reid's newest offering, Mrs. Big introduces readers to Loletta Hightower. She is all about designer clothes, trips to the spa and lavish vacations. She is a receptionist for a luxury car dealer. She is living in an expensive apartment with her mother (Mrs. Hightower). She meets rich men and they support her for a few months at a time. She is tired of the temporary support and is ready to walk down the aisle. Loletta is looking for a husband, but not just any man. Her ideal man has lots of money and is willing to spend it on her and her mother.Loletta sees a former classmate, Kavon "Big" Jackson at the dealership where she works. She talks to him at the dealership and soon after their meeting they become a couple. They are engaged and married after their meeting. Kavon has just signed a new NBA contract with another team so he has plenty of money to spend. Loletta gets much more than she ever bargained for. Mrs. Big is a very entertaining novel. This book is filled with drama and held my attention to the very end. This read was well-written and it seemed as though I knew the characters. There were times where I found myself yelling about the things the characters were doing. I enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to others. Although this is my first time reading Ms. Reid's work, it will definitely not be my last. Reviewed by Phyllis Ann APOOO BookClub

This book was okay. But I caught a lot of stuff that didn't make sense. Loletta age changed a few times in the book as well as her name. Also Kavon age changed too. A lot of stuff in this book just didn't make sense. I mean It was a okay read but this book was not well put together or even prof-read before published. I would pass on the next book that come from this publication company.

MRS. BIG WAS INFATUATED WITH LIVING A LAVISH LIFE, BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY. SHE HAD A THING FOR MONEY AND MEN WITH MONEY, THAT OF WHICH SHE WAS TAUGHT BY HER MOTHER. IT WAS AN ENTERTAINING READ FOR THE MOST PART. SOME PARTS OF THE BOOKS HAD MY MOUTH HITTING THE FLOOR, SOME LEFT ME WONDERING. OVERALL, I'D RECOMMEND IT TO A FRIEND.

Pretty good but a little too raw for me at times,

This book tackled a very touchy subject of gold-digging. I liked the book and I like the story it was trying to tell. There are some unclear information and situations in the book but you can still understand the story. I felt the raw edge missed the mark and was seen as unnecessary and vulgar at times. Also didn't care for the ending. But all in all a pretty good read.

(RAW Rating: 4.5) - Everything That Glitters Ain't Gold,

This review is from: Mrs. Big (Paperback)
Loletta Hightower is mesmerized by the good life. She wants it all: lavish vacation, enormous bling-bling, and an extravagant home. Rather than work for it, she believes she is destined to marry well. After spending her youth chasing rappers and R &B singers, in adulthood, she sets her sights on professional athletes. Urged by her mother to marry a rich man and dissuaded by her father, who only wants Loletta to be the best she can be, Loletta begins a life-affirming journey complete with twists, turns, and misery.Loletta believes her ship has come in when she becomes the wife of Kavon "Big" Jackson, her college classmate, virtually overnight. Before she can settle in her role as the wife of a major NBA player, Kavon reveals his true self. Additionally, there is one woman that will stop at nothing to make Kavon her own. MRS. BIG reveals a seedier side of women chasing men with money. Maryann Reid weaves a tale of how the practice of conning and scheming to obtain material possessions destroys a woman's self-respect and self-esteem. Unlike many other novels based on the same premise, Reid's tale is cautionary. Early in the novel, many readers may not particularly care for Loletta because of her gold-digging ways. However, by the end you will find yourself applauding and rooting for her as she finds her own way in the world. Reviewed by Katrina for The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers

I read some of the other reviews and was kinda of leery about reading this book. I am happy I read it and I enjoyed it. It teachs a valuable lesson and I like the way Loletta matured by the end of the book. It goes to show that the grass is not always greener on the other side and I think a lot of young women could learn from this book.

The "Big" Life,
By Joanne JoJo (Flint, Michigan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mrs. Big (Paperback)
I read this book in two days. I read at least 3 books a month. I thoroughly enjoyed how this author told the story of a groupie who turned to cards around and played everyone else. The sex scenes were very explicit, but all in the right context. Mmmm, Kavon was a dog, but I couldnt help to wonder who would be the woman to fix him, if they want the baggage he comes with. Overall, I saw myself talking back to the characters! That's a good sign for me, and I went to bed thinking of them, too, esp those sex scenes. I'm not easily impressed with books these days, but this was a light, entertaining read, and needs a followup!

OK,
This review is from: Mrs. Big (Paperback)
I totally agree with the previous reader. I read the book and many things were unclear. It could have been a great story, but I needed more detail. The book finished with many, many unanswered questions. We never had insight from Kevin's perspective. Ok, many once or twice. The crazy chick...........i would have liked to heard more from her as well. The way she just left when ol' crazy claimed her man. WHATEVER! Her Mom...ok, that's another story in itself. The ending, let's just say I was not satisfied at all. Her prior book was much, much better which led me to purchase this one.

How Big...How Far?!?,
By
This review is from: Mrs. Big (Paperback)
Mrs. Reid has yet again given us another drama filled book:)Just how far and low are you willing to go to have the glamorous life? According to Loletta, very low and far. Loletta has been raised to have all the finest things life can offer, at any and all cost, with the coach of a gold digging mother leaning on her shoulders and pushing her; she soon marries into the life style she's looking for; but she realizes all glitter isn't gold and putting all her eggs in one basket umm...can be stupid. She meets Kavon, who happens to be a muti-millionaire and gives her everything her heart wants including his last name 'Big'/Jackson. After several months of marriage she finds out what its like to live the life of a NBA star's wife and its nothing pretty or glamorous about it. With the help of a few close friends and her father. She learns to stand on her own two feet and live her life the way she wants. Go through this difficult journey with Lolatta and feel her pain and strength. Its well worth it! Another Great Job well done...the book leaves us kinda hangin'. Enough for a sequel:)

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It had just enough steamy scenes to keep it interesting but a plot to support them. As some of the other reviewers have noted there were grammatical errors and a few slips in the facts. But not withstanding those errors, the book was still great. I'd highly recommend it.
