Editorial Reviews

BBC Mrs Brown's Boys Series One released September 2011. Brilliantly funny comedian Brendan O'Carroll stars as out spoken Irish Mammy Agnes Brown in this brand new BBC/RTE comedy series.

Customer Reviews

I did buy me a "all region" dvd player and I have no problem with it at all.

If you need a good laugh and don't have children around while you watch this, Mrs. Brown will have you rolling on the floor with her gut splitting antics.

It is great to watch these episodes all over again and to share them with friends who missed the first series.

Someone sent me a youTube clip of 'Mrs. Brown's Boys,' and I was instantly hooked. Unfortunately, I had to wait quite a while before it was released on DVD, but I can honestly say, it was well worth the wait! Hilarious!

It's an Irish comedy featuring the Browns, a very dysfunctional family, encountering a manifold variety of issues which Mrs. Brown wades into and tries to sort. The humour sometimes seems completely random, and the lead, Brendan O'Carrol, has a penchant for ad libbing gleeful interjections and strongly worded opinions. Add to that the occasional stage/camera mistakes, asides, and direct addresses to the audience (yes, it's filmed before a live audience), and the result is completely entertaining and uproarious.

The language might be considered kid inappropriate for U.S. sensibilities and consumption, sexual situations, gay issues, but that doesn't diminish the show, in ANY respect, in my opinion. But, if you're quite humourless, be warned~!

This is an excellent series, and I recommend it highly. I loved this programme! Hopefully, season 2 is in the works.

The only downside? U.S. viewers may have to wait a bit before the series shows up for them -- if it does.

The DVD's were wonderful, I just wish they were longer. It just left me wanting more, which is a good thing. I live in the US and these DVD's were Region 2. I do not have a multi-region DVD player, nor did I want to buy one. I read a helpful review here that said they would play in most computers. They worked wonderfully in my computer.

The disclaimer says you must have a multi-regional dvd player, which is true, but the dvd plays on most every computer. It's the funniest show around for the money right now, however, because of some of the language it won't make it to prime-time American audiences. For belly-laughs and funny situations it can't be beat!

I live in the UK and saw Mrs. Brown's Boys on BBC One when it aired and decided to buy the DVD as well. Some of the jokes are Irish that some may not get. There are two DVDs, the first DVD has all six episodes of the first season, when the second disc has specials and the pilot. Also this series isn't "Irish Version" as the product title suggests as the BBC took lead on this and funded most of it and RTE funding some of it. And it was filmed in one of the BBC Scotland's studio.

Take note if you are smart enough to play this DVD via your computer it will have very bad interlacing problems which is weird for a show that was filmed in HD. To get round this don't use any build in player such as DVD Player on Mac or Windows Media Player on Windows. Use VLC that you can get it to correct some of the interlace problems out. Also due to the fact of this DVD being region 2 you need a multi region DVD player or an extra USB DVD drive for your computer to play it. BUT you can again use VLC and watch it without changing your region on your drive.

Its jokes are similar to Father Ted: The Definitive Collection. Here in the UK we are enjoying the second season and a third one on its way.

The full shows are hillarious. Did not have a bluray so I purchased a "region free" bluray so that I could watch them (also at Amazaon.com). Could have purchased a region free dvd player for alot less ($50). Can't wait for Season 2 to be available!

This show is the funniest thing ever! I'm a Brit and have friends back home who keep me up-to-date with what's new there and I saw a clip of this series and laughed so much that I had to buy the series and this first set is hilarious. I will continue to collect this series as long as it is on the air, it's the best!
