This review is from: Mrs. Malory and the Silent Killer: A Sheila Malory Mystery (Hardcover)
Sidney is preparing to act like a senior citizen by retreating to an "old people's home" at the instigation of his son, and everyone is abuzz with rumors when he donates furniture for the Red Cross auction sale. It's all the talk when Sidney turned up death by the silent killer: carbon monoxide poisoning. He had seemed such a nice, 'genuine' sort of person, but then you never know what someone might be capable of if the provocation is great enough.Mrs. Malory is the Ms. Marble of Taviscombe and decides to uncover the circumstances behind Sidney's death, which is considered "suspicious." Poor Sidney, whom they all had thought was a respected pillar of the community, had a past no one was aware of and a secret someone would kill to silence him once and for all. He had collected enemies for his ill-behaved manner along the way, and some had been pushed too far. She discovered some less-than-reliable men luring in Middleton after the 'tragedy.' Could one of those have been the killer, and why? It was revealed that he was not a gentleman, but a thoroughly unpleasant man. Many 'professional' men are able to pull the wool over the eyes of mere acquaintances, but gets it in the end. Myra and Joe considered Sidney a murderer and followed the Biblical belief in revenge: "an eye for an eye" as many Knoxvillians still do. They also believe in self-defense. Just go away and leave us in peace. That's the best thing for now. There are at least twenty Mrs. Mallory mysteries floating around. They are cleverly developed and cover many subjects. |
