5.0 out of 5 stars Romance, adventure, good writing, wonderful scenery --- all time fav movie, October 25, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mrs. Mike (VHS Tape)
When I was a young teen I saw this movie on television one Sunday afternoon. I fell in love with the story of Mrs. Mike and her tale of living in the snowy north. After seeing the movie, I bought a copy of the book (as with anything the book is so much better but the movie is terrific) and have loved this story for close to 35 years. The movie and book are based on the life of an American girl who did move to Canada after marrying her Mountie.

This afternoon, after the movie arrived from Amazon, I sat down and watched Mrs. Mike. My memory did not fail me and I loved every minute of the movie. Once again I saw how true love and romance can conquer all. Oh, how I wish Hollywood made movies like this, but alas, I'll have to keep watching memorable old movies such as Mrs. Mike.

4.0 out of 5 stars Never a Dull Moment, July 10, 2008
This review is from: Mrs. Mike (VHS Tape)
Mike Flannigan (Dick Powell) is a mountee in the north. His duty calls him back to the wilderness after a stay in a city, but he can't leave without the woman he has fallen in love with (Evelyn Keyes). Kathy is from Boston, and her father is not convinced that she could have a happy life in the north. She makes the decision for herself though and lets love lead her away from the comfort of the city. Once there, she realizes just how difficult, lonely, but rewarding a life in the north can be, and with Mike at her side, Kathy can brave almost anything.

A sweet romance that never gets boring, Mrs. Mike is obviously adapted from a novel. The pace is somewhat different than the traditional movie, but everything that happens is important. Keyes is beautiful and strong in her role, and Powell appropriately alternates between the protective husband and the jovial friend. The two have great chemistry together which makes the film work rather well.
