5.0 out of 5 stars Special book for a Special teacher
This book will touch the heart of anyone who is dedicated to teaching and nurturing students. It is also an example of figurative writing. I recommend it as a gift for a special teacher and/or student teacher. As a veteran teacher who will soon retire, I do not recommend it for a retiring teacher. (Some will disagree with that statement). It would remind me of what I am...

3.0 out of 5 stars It's sweet
I read the reviews on this before I bought it. I was disappointed with the book when I got it. The reviews made it sound perfect for the teacher who loves to garden . I suppose it works for a gift for a teacher you really don't know and it's sweet , but I was under-whelmed by it considerably.

5.0 out of 5 stars Special book for a Special teacher, February 26, 2008

This book will touch the heart of anyone who is dedicated to teaching and nurturing students. It is also an example of figurative writing. I recommend it as a gift for a special teacher and/or student teacher. As a veteran teacher who will soon retire, I do not recommend it for a retiring teacher. (Some will disagree with that statement). It would remind me of what I am leaving and all that I will miss. Give it to someone who is preparing a classroom for the future. Warning...check the size of the book. The hard back version now comes in a small gift book size. Great for a personal gift. Not great if you are reading it to an audience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Looking for the perfect teacher gift?, June 9, 2008
It's that time of year again. Your child has finished one of the primary grades and you are looking for a gift for that special teacher. Her desk is covered with "things" labeled "teacher" and you want something that will let her know just what an impact she has had on your child. Mrs. Spitzer's Garden is the perfect gift. I discovered this title while searching my library for a picture book about gardening that I could incorporate into a kindergarten story time. Yes, it is about gardening but by reading deeper and studying the illustrations, it quickly becomes apparent that the author is saying more about the teacher and her class than an actual garden. I purchased this book for a retiring Kindergarten teacher because it was her and her career in picturebook form. She loved it and and I plan to gift other terrific teachers with this book in the future.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book for a teacher gift, September 18, 2011

This is a very cute story for a teacher. It would be appropriate for the beginning of the year, or the end of the year. The only reason I didn't give it a full five stars is because the book itself was a bit smaller than expected, but it's not mini; perfect gift size. I would guess that it's about 6" x 6".

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for teachers, July 24, 2009
This is a lovely story abbout a teacher who is given a pack of seeds by her principal in the beginning of the school year. She feeds and waters them, and tends them with tender loving care until the day they blossom and go on their way.

As a teacher, this is my book of choice for the first and last day of school. It's how I introduce school to my young students and how I make them aware of how much they've blossomed in the ten months of school when school is over. They all 'get' it, and sit spellbound as the story unfolds.

It's a gentle story, with lovely, quirky illustrations and a message about learning and growing up and out. I highly recommend it to anyone teaching lower school, or as a gift for your favorite teacher.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, Smaller than I thought, June 13, 2009
I LOVE this book and think it is PERFECT for any teacher!! I already own one copy myself, and wanted to purchase one for my child's teacher this year. The cover art was a little different, which was fine, but I expected a book that was about 11"x11" and this book was about 4.5"x4.5". Still a great gift worth giving, just smaller than expected, hence the 3 stars!
