Great Hard Rock Album,
This review is from: M.S.G. - McAuley Schenker Group (Audio CD)
Michael Schenker of Scorpions and UFO fame and Robin McAuley made one killer of a band and album. This album is full of soft ballads and kick-ass rockers. Michael Schenker plays guitar like few others and Robin McAuley is an excellent and underated singer. The album rock...hard. Fans of 80s hard rock will cherish this underated masterpiece.

The McAuley Schenker era usually gets dumped on for being too "commercial". Well, isn't the point to make your music accessible and sell albums? This album is "radio friendly", but Schenker is still Schenker especially on Never Ending Nightmare.
The best songs include: Eve(a good rocker), When I'm Gone & This Broken Heart(both mid-tempo songs) and Lonely Nights(a simple fun rocker). Robin McAuley is the best vocalist Schenker has worked with, outside of Phil Mogg(UFO). He can handle any song from full out rock to the gentler ballads. If you're buying McSG start with Perfect Timing and then pick this one up. A solid album with good songs.

Great Cd for an underated band. This bands music is hard to find but I can only compare the vocal sound to that of the Scorpions. The best song on here is "When I'm Gone". There are a few other good songs on here as well.

1992's MSG was the third (and final) album of Michael Schenker's collaboration with former Grand Prix vocalist Robin McAuley. It was also by far the most commercial sounding of the McAuley-Schenker Group releases.
McAuley sounds terrific as always, and reminds me a lot of Hardline's Johnny Gioeli. Schenker does a great job too, and doesn't go too far over the top with his soloing. My only real gripe is with the songwriting and production, which is just a little too generic and calculated. This album just seems consciously designed to sound like the more popular hair metal albums than the previous MSG albums. Still, the songs are quite melodic and pack a punch, and tracks like the single "Eve" and the ballad "This Night's Gonna Last Forever" are pretty irresistible. If you're a Michael Schenker fan, this album is obviously a must-have. Fans of `80s melodic rock and hair metal should also give it a try, but do yourself a favor and pick up Perfect Timing and Save Yourself before checking out MSG.
