German Hip-Hop at its best,
By Moritz Oehl (Sewanee, TN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mt3 (Audio CD)
Massive Töne are back with their third full-length album. After the last big success from 1999 "Überfall", "MT3" marks a new step in the evolution of the Stuttgart-based band. With their lyrical extravaganza (although they rap in German, these guys DO have skills!) and some of the newest and crunkest beats to be heard from Germany yet, this album gets a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. MCs Ju and Schowi flow tight as usual on the sound-collage supplied by their DJ 5ter Ton. Massive Töne include urgent social and political messages in their lyrics. For example, they rap about Neo-Nazism and other problems in Germany right now ("Deutschland, Deutschland"). Party Hip-Hop, however, has always played an important role in the band's songs, too. Tracks like "Im Club" (exclusively produced by New York's DJ P.F. Cuttin', an old-time friend of the band) or "Mach mal lauter" (which means: turn it up) keep you bouncin' on the dancefloor and make you enjoy this album. In "Traumreise" (dream voyage), Ju and Schowi take you on an imaginary trip around the world and the beat makes you wanna close your eyes, lay back and relax. Overall "MT3" is defnitely worth the money. If you wanna go beyond the typical American Hip-Hop and explore something no one of your friends has, then this album is a must. Massive Töne will convince you with their freshly new style of rap and - if you understand at least some German - their lyrical skills.

Solid beats and rhymes from these artist's. In German so can't understand the lyrics,
but know that its on some non-gangsta, concious uplifting tip. Very tight production and the emcees seem to be on point. Nice appearances from thirstin howl and PF cuttin too! |
