5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Total Workout In Just the Right Time
After being stuck in the "Intermediate Zone" with my mostly Kathy Smith workout tapes, I have seen quick results in a short period of time with this tape. 3.0 out of 5 stars A decent supplement to your cardio workout.
Keith Byard, might not be the best workout video instructor in terms of cuing (sometimes the count is to 16, then to 24, 15, 30, 25!), but he is so earnest and well-meaning that you forgive him this. He will also give you an enjoyable total body strengthening and sculpting workout. The brief cardio section, using every-day movements instead of "Solid Gold"...

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Total Workout In Just the Right Time, March 28, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Mtv / Advanced Workout: Total Body Training [VHS] (VHS Tape)
After being stuck in the "Intermediate Zone" with my mostly Kathy Smith workout tapes, I have seen quick results in a short period of time with this tape. Keith Byard gives clear instructions throughout the tape, emphasizes "safety at all times" and many exercises are modified if you are having difficulty keeping up. The tape begins with a warmup and stretch and quickly moves into approximately 20 minutes of an aerobic workout which is not "dancy". A step is used in the video but is not absolutely necessary if you don't have one. After a heart rate check, it moves into upper body exercises using free weights (curls, tricep extensions, overhead presses) and some tough pushups. There are also standing lower body exercises and the workout finishes with a super abdominal workout before the cooldown stretch. You could not fit any more into a 55 minute workout. Being a 45 year old woman I might never have bought a workout tape from MTV: however, a review on the video fitness website convinced me to try it. It is NOT a tape for beginners (Kathy Smith is excellent for beginners) but you will see quick improvements if you regularly do this tape.

3.0 out of 5 stars A decent supplement to your cardio workout., May 9, 2000
This review is from: Mtv / Advanced Workout: Total Body Training [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Keith Byard, might not be the best workout video instructor in terms of cuing (sometimes the count is to 16, then to 24, 15, 30, 25!), but he is so earnest and well-meaning that you forgive him this. He will also give you an enjoyable total body strengthening and sculpting workout. The brief cardio section, using every-day movements instead of "Solid Gold" Dancer moves, was mostly easy to follow ( Keith, you gotta cue!) Ah! Too bad it was over so quickly. I found the music was average, not great, not terrible. The girls were a smidge robotic and charmless, especially the premature one who kept on getting ahead of the instructor. Keith's section was nicely shot on the beautiful cliffs of Palos Verdes. The Yoga section with Courtney also had some astonishing photography of Utah canyons. I would recommend using this tape as sculpting to supplement a great cardio workout like Karen Voight's "Energy Sprint" or Kathy Smith's "Functionally Fit Peak Fat Burning."

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT WORKOUT FOR ADVANCED, January 15, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Mtv / Advanced Workout: Total Body Training [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I just happened to come across this video a few years ago and I was hesitant to buy it because I expected it to be a lot of fancy footwork (I am not very coordinated)but I was pleased to find that this tape provided a fantastic cardio workout without all the fancy steps. The abdominal segment is outstanding and if your arms arent very strong definately use light weights the segments are tough. I would rec this tape to anyone looking for a tape that is a challenge without having to rewind every 2 minutes to figure out what the heck your feet are supposed to doing.

5.0 out of 5 stars The workout I was searching for!, August 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Mtv / Advanced Workout: Total Body Training [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This workout provides the perfect balance of cardio and strength training, emphasizing the basics, such as push-ups and squats. Byard focuses on lots of reps with light weights that tones your muscles (ie. you don't get bulky). It was so refreshing to find a video that finally produced results by focusing on a strenuous workout rather than fancy choreography. I don't know what I'd do without this tape!

4.0 out of 5 stars Shows Great Results!, July 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Mtv / Advanced Workout: Total Body Training [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a great workout for anyone who exercises frequently. The upper body workout with weights is fantastic! It's a bit tough, but eventually one will be able to keep up. I got a lot of compliments on my toned arms and shoulders. The abs workout is also great, I saw results quickly (eating properly helps too!) The only drawback is one of the girls in the video, Ann (the one with the pigtails) she is sometimes ahead of the instructor, so try not to pay too much attention to her. I highly recommend this video! It includes a bonus 30 minute Yoga segment, but I have never tried it, I'm really hooked on the Advanced workout. This video along with Elle Macpherson's "Personal Best" really do provide great results when done frequently.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best!, December 31, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Mtv / Advanced Workout: Total Body Training [VHS] (VHS Tape)
As explained by other reviewers, this video provides an excellent, intense full-body workout. I would like to also mention that the bonus yoga session is one of the best I've experienced! I've noticed quite an increase in my strength, stamina, and flexibility after consistently using this video - it successfully incorporates cardiovascular exercise, toning, and yoga.

4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely a Complete Workout, June 16, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Mtv / Advanced Workout: Total Body Training [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This video starts out with a cardio segment and then segues into a weight training workout. The production is off, with Keith figuring out the next cue while the women in the video have started the next exercise. It is a rigorous workout, made for an advanced level since there is little or no instruction. The music isn't that great and you can hardly hear it. So, don't get it if you expect a high energy motivational video, get it if you are disciplined and up for an intense workout.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good, March 14, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Mtv / Advanced Workout: Total Body Training [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a pretty good workout. I have been doing cardio and strength training for about two years and I had a hard time getting through this video. It really works your entire body, Nevertheless, I do wish the cardio/aerobic segment was a little more intense. I hardly broke a sweat during this segment. Furthermore, I thought that the instructor's sound effects and constant chatter was a bit much, but as I continued with the video, it became easier to ignore him. I recommend this video if you want an intense total body workout, I really felt it the next morning. However, I would supplement it with another cardio/aerobics video. Try Kathy Smith's Kickboxing workout.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent total body athletic workout, August 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Mtv / Advanced Workout: Total Body Training [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I'm not a big fan of working out to a video tape..i'd rather be outside running! But I actually enjoy this work out. It is an athletic one-hour total body workout. The only downside is the leaders annoying sound effects. I simply turn down the sound.

By A Customer
This review is from: Mtv / Advanced Workout: Total Body Training [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is an excellent workout tape. It works out every part of your body. It is very intense and very well choreographed. You see the result quickly. I have been doing it three times a week and I have seen results.
