5.0 out of 5 stars Open to something new....
The bad reviews seem to all be piping from people with in my humble opinion a little closed mindedness in the area of electronic music. This album has quite a collection of new styles. A little lop sided in the fact that a majority of the songs are remixes and include a heavy dose of rap. BUT... this is still VERY good. As for those who said they wanted more...

2.0 out of 5 stars Just Another Remix Comp....sigh
Having already bought Amp 1, I was looking forward to its sequel, even after having read that it would be an album focusing on the hip hop/electronica influence. I hate to admit, but I was pretty disappointed with the album as a whole. I did enjoy the new Fatboy Slim track, but the remainder of the album seemed to lack any real electronica or techno influence, aside...

A little lop sided in the fact that a majority of the songs are remixes and include a heavy dose of rap. BUT... this is still VERY good. As for those who said they wanted more "Rave" + "Techno" type music, I can only assume your perspective comes from what you have heard from others... the music contained on this cd represents some of the (in my opinion) better emergings styles of music being played at parties or raves. Get the CD, enjoy it, and see for yourself, DEFINATLY worth the 12bucks...

P.S. I found that many of my friends that are mainly into rap/hiphop really liked this cd the beats are great and the rap artists are top of the heap :-)

4.0 out of 5 stars Who defined electronica anyway?, August 13, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Mtv Amp 2 (Audio CD)
I don't know why so many of you guys are slagging down this CD for not being "electronica". There is no such thing as "electronica" anyway - as far as I can tell, that word is simply a marketing term dreamed up by MTV in an attempt to package the UK dance diaspora to the US. Ask any of the big "electronica" artists and they will ALL tell you that they count hip hop as one of their greatest influences. KRS-1 and the Jungle Brothers are only getting due respect when people like Goldie and Aphrodite want to work with them. This is a cool album and a pretty good sample of some of the sounds that are shaping music in the UK right now.

4.0 out of 5 stars Buy this cd, September 22, 2001

I definitely think this cd is a must have. Of course on all cds, you have two or three cruddy songs, but on the whole, there are some bangin tunes on this cd. My personal favorite would have to be the KRS1 and Goldie joint. Sure the fatboy slim song is played out, but 5 years from now, I wouldnt mind rockin to it again. Just check out the list of artists on the cd. You cant possibly go wrong with that much talent. Big A in the Hiz-A

It seems like all the losers who think electronica isnt the compilation of ALL music hate this CD. Wake-up! music critics! MTV Amp 2 is one of the greatest Rap-techno-rave combo's yet.... from the amazing KRS-1, to the great Chemical Brothers this Cd's got it all, for the electronic lovers swinging more towards rap.. or people new to the electronic genre, this is a great introduction to tecno/trip-hop! Buy it! its worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's got flow...and cheers you up!, January 4, 2005

Now in 2005, this Cd sounds splendid, everything here blends wonderfully-Yeah, in hindsight. Even if at the time it did not.
It is the same with classical composers, in their time, you could distinguish Haydn from Mozart, but centuries later, you could listen to them side by side as if they were one.
And a Cd like this sounds incredible in retrospective, specially in these times when RNB and Hip-Hop have taken over the airwaves as invasively as they have....This is a 1998 time capsule, and captures all that electronica fever that could have been but never really was ( Popular on Billboard I mean.)...listen to it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nine years later..., May 14, 2007

...I still listen to this CD from time to time. Nah, I don't like every track. And yeah, I can find everything on here somewhere else. When I bought this, I was 19, didn't have a lot of loot, and wanted a few of the tracks. Now that I look back, I'm glad I did. "Rockafeller Skank" is an absolute techno classic. The Method Man/Prodigy track is pretty good. "Battleflag" is a nifty one-hit-wonder track. The JB remix is fun, and definitely Aphrodite. The "Sexy Boy" remix is almost scary ("wanna go for a ride? only 25c"). The Goldie vs KRS-One track is, IMHO, the best techno-rap crossover ever. "Circles" is solid. I love Roni Size and Propellerheads. And the hidden Chemical Brothers track is interesting, if not amazing. All in all, this is a fun album, full of great hits (with a few stinkers in between, unfortunately). I would recommend this album, even now, to someone who is just learning about "electronica" and wants to experience many different forms of the genre in one easy sitting.

4.0 out of 5 stars Regular, January 2, 2000
By
This review is from: Mtv Amp 2 (Audio CD)
Did you ever stop to think that even if you're 1,000,000 times better than regular, that still makes you irregular? Well, my little philosophy could easily apply to this CD; it's got a few exceptional tracks but the others are so bad that it almost isn't worth buying.

See, some of it is good. Sexy Boy is one of the funkiest, most original songs to come out in a long time (check out the video!), and you can always count on the Jungle Brothers to meet your expectations. A special surprise (at least for me) was the Method Man track, which makes me feel instantly aggressive and makes me want to kick something. It's very empowering. A couple of the other songs are good to shout along to (shout- not sing), but some of it is absolutly horrendous. "War" is one of the worst songs I've heard in a long time, and songs like "Rockefellar Skank" and "Battleflag" are so mainstream that they don't seem to fit in.

I would recommend buying this CD for someone between the ages of 12-21 in your household, then stealing it and listening to it yourself. You can't justifying buying a CD when I've told you the truth (that only two or three tracks are really good), but if it's a gift then it's okay!

4.0 out of 5 stars wow... piku live, June 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Mtv Amp 2 (Audio CD)
first of this one is about ten times better than amp 1... its mix of hip-hop and electronic is amazing... but the tracks aren't consistant... though most of the songs are good some are just average... really i would only give it three stars but to hear piku by the chemical brothers live (track 13) was just to cool... so i had to give it four... other than that the best tracks are battleflag (by the wonderful lo fi allstars) and jungle brother... it wont be the hit of your collection... but its worth buying...

4.0 out of 5 stars Ignore the MTV association look at the label: Astrelworks, November 24, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Mtv Amp 2 (Audio CD)
If you're stuck into one style of music this cd probably isnt for you. But those of us with eclectic taste will appreciate the majority of the tracks on this cd. The method man and chuck d. tracks alone make this cd a buy. But throw in some aphrodite and some fatboy slim and you got yourself a good value.
