I think this is the best rap collection EVER! I have seen many come and go but this one can not me denied. MTV has suprisingly put together a great album to go in anyone's cd rack. The first 1000 of rock, r&b, and new wave are all also awsome.

a great CD (some of which MTV even aired!),

There is, of course, a great irony in MTV even releasing a hip-hop compiliation, given the network's near-constant antipathy towards black music, ignoring everything from Michael Jackson to rap until its commercial supremacy made airing it inevitable (and even then it was relegated to Yo, unless you were white). There are many huge artists missing here-- LL Cool J, Public Enemy, Naughty By Nature and the Beastie Boys are the major absences, and if MTV REALLY wanted to give us a history of the rap it aired, the disc would be dominated by such pop poseurs as Vanilla Ice, Snow, and Hammer. But let's be honest-- quibbling aside, cognitive dissonance never sounded this funky, and it's important to note all the wonderful selections we do get-- Grandmaster Flash, Ice Cube, NWA, Run-DMC, Arrested Development, Snoop, and above all, the Digital Underground. A great party disc, and a nice introduction to twenty years of hip-hop. Let's just hope in the future, MTV has the courage and foresight to contemporaneously support the artists they deify in retrospect, instead of just jumping on every easy bandwagon.

Of course, if you love rap, then you already know who all the artists are. Incredible songs, all on one cd. Just let it run at partys, etc. Everyting that all the other reveiwers said is true, Exept for that one guy from florida who beleives the cd is trying to opress black talent. Bottom line- You will always keep this cd in your changer.

MTV did a great job with this one. "California Love" and "Jump Around" are just classics. Then, you've got lots of old school stuff such as Dre, Snoop, Coolio, and Run D.M.C. Ice Cube's fans know that his name speaks for itself. One artist still riding the rap wave is Master P, with "Make 'Em Say Uhh". This CD is truly a great collection of classic rap with a few guys still hitting it big (Snoop, Dre, Master P, Ice Cube)
