4.0 out of 5 stars Impressed but not exstatic
I was impressed by alot of the contend although it could have done without the will ford song and anglea whoever. I agree with the good reviews but they are all missing one thing...Simple Plan makes this CD shine. Simply put its a funny and happy song that demonstrates how we all feel once in a while. Mary Christmas too all and to all I bid Good-Bye.

3.0 out of 5 stars I Thought It Would Be Better
I bought this album under the assumption that it would be good. It has some artists I'm familiar with and like, but some others I had never heard of and was willing to give it a shot. I heard some decent songs from trusted artists like Christina Aguilera, *N Sync, TLC, and I really liked Sugar Ray's version of "Little Saint Nick," but some of the other songs...

3.0 out of 5 stars I Thought It Would Be Better, November 25, 2001
This review is from: Mtv TRL Christmas (Audio CD)
I bought this album under the assumption that it would be good. It has some artists I'm familiar with and like, but some others I had never heard of and was willing to give it a shot. I heard some decent songs from trusted artists like Christina Aguilera, *N Sync, TLC, and I really liked Sugar Ray's version of "Little Saint Nick," but some of the other songs just didn't seem too Christmassy, if you pardon the expression. A lot of the songs express a lot of greed, like Simple Plan's "Christmas List," and most of them really lack any sentiment. This is a CD I wish I could've listened to before I bought it, or would have, because I know I would have changed my mind.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing Christmas about TRL, November 2, 2001
This review is from: Mtv TRL Christmas (Audio CD)
What is the point of getting a bunch of pop stars together to make a Christmas CD that sounds nothing like a Christmas CD. There are maybe 3 tracks that will get you in the Holiday spirit.
Among them is Nsyncs I Don't Wanna Spend One More Christmas Without You, Christina Aguileras Angels We Have Heard on High, and Trans Siberin Orchestras Christams Cannon. Willa Ford is the worst thing about this album making a funky, sexy, inappropriate
song called Gimme Gimme Gimme. These songs seem out of place and don't fit on a Holiday CD. I would much rather hear these artists take holiday classics and redo them almost like the original versions. Instead they make a mess out of them.

2.0 out of 5 stars resistable, November 7, 2001
This review is from: Mtv TRL Christmas (Audio CD)
I love christmas songs, and while this cd was ok I would hardly consider it a classic. If you really want to get into the holiday spirit but christmas cds by Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, and Nsync. If you like compelation cds Platinum Christmas is much better thsn this.

2.0 out of 5 stars Why call it TRL when its not TRL Material?, December 14, 2001

I recieved this CD as a gift for Christmas. Looking at the tracklist, I was pretty surprised to see such great and diverse artists on a (mainly pop) TRL compliation CD. Many of the songs are certainly NOT decent for Christmas. I believe my 2 stars is very fair considering the only songs worth anything on this album are by artists such as Willa Ford, Christina Aguilera, NSYNC, Blink 182, Trans Sieberian Orchestra, LFO and Angela Via. The rest just don't blend with a Christmas mood. For some good christmas songs, look for Platinum Christmas featuring Britney Spears "My Only Wish this Year."

2.0 out of 5 stars Puts You In the True Christmas Mood, January 9, 2002

This review is from: Mtv TRL Christmas (Audio CD)
A CD like this amazes me. It comes along with the super gloss of a Britney Spears CD and the well-known names of popular music. The authors of these songs obviously are unconcerned with the quality of the final effort, they merely want the gilt for their share of the album. Why on earth would Christina Aguilera add a song to an album with Weezer? Because she didn't get enough sales from "My Kind of Christmas" to be happy. Now this, embossed with the celebrated phenomenon of MTV's hit music countdown show TRL throws 16 tunes we've heard elsewhere (or could easily just download!) and spoon feeds them to us once more.

The CD starts off well, with the second best song of the album Willa Ford's "Santa Baby" (Gimme Gimme Gimmie).

Some mindless drivel including an over-lacquered *NSYNC track and the impressive (though sometimes admittedly nerve-wracking) Christina Aguilera tune. Oh, and don't forget to pitch some TLC our way with their recycled non-hit previously featured on Platinum Christmas.

We then get to a fresh, fun and enjoyable song by Blink-182 "I Won't Be Home For Christmas" which makes a mockery of the gift-exchanging ritual as well as those bothersome carolers as well as pesky relatives. "It's Christmas time /again/ time to be nice to the people you can't stand/all year"

From there, the ablum plunges into musical oblivion. Weezer and P.O.D. "Rock the Party" with their unpleasant screaming. LFO stops in to lement over not havin' nobody, and Angela Via screams at us for a while. Finally, the Trans Siberia Orchestra BLASTS OUR EARDRUMS off with their impressively loud rendition of Christmas Canon. Then, Hark! (What's this?) Silence! You hear nothing. The CD rotates, preparing for the next unsuspecting listener.

Filled with glee after hearing that clatter, you throw back your earphones to see if cousin Myrtle got fatter. And on the way downstairs with kisses being blown to ya, you can't help declaring a very merry "Aleluja!"

3.0 out of 5 stars An attempt to transform Christmas into ?????, November 5, 2002
This review is from: Mtv TRL Christmas (Audio CD)
The first part of this CD was bearable to me with some fair pop though not very Christmassy tracks like Willa Ford, 'NSYNC, TLC, Sugar Ray and Blink-182.

However, this is definitely a record for your Christmas party. Put it on when you want everybody to go home (Okay, so I used that line on another "Christmas" CD, so sue me). The only downer with that plan is that by the time the Weezer & POD tracks are done, not only will your guests have left, but your dog, cat, bird, and goldfish will probably have left too.

Honestly, this CD just has no real relationship to any meaning a person may ascribe to Christmas. All thoughts of true joy, love, or anything associated with Christmas Spirit are missing.

However, I do give it three stars. There are teenagers who will doubtlessly enjoy this, and I did honestly enjoy Trans-Siberian's "Christmas Canon".

2.0 out of 5 stars NOT GOOD UNLESS YOU'RE A TEENAGER, August 9, 2007
This review is from: Mtv TRL Christmas (Audio CD)
OK THIS IS NOT YOUR TYPICAL CHRISTMAS CD. CHRISTMAS SONGS ARE USUALLY SLOW AND CHERRY. THIS CD ON THE OTHER HAND PUT ITS OWN LITTLE TWIST ON THINGS. LOTS OF ALTERNATIVE ARTISTS. SOME HIP HOP AND SOME POP. FROM CHRISTINA AGUILERA TO SIMPLE PLAN. THIS CD WOULD MAKE A GREAT GIFT FOR 11- 15 YEAR OLDS. MOM AND DAD PROBABLY WONT LIKE IT. THIS CD IS UP TO YOU. IF POSSIBLE I SUGGEST LISTENING TO IT BEFORE YOU BUY IT.

5.0 out of 5 stars Some gems!, November 20, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Mtv TRL Christmas (Audio CD)
Most of the songs aren't very good on here. But there are a couple highlights. First, ANGELA VIA's "CHRISTMAS WISH"! That song is beautiful beyond words. Second, WILLA FORD's "SANTA BABY"! It's fun, hip, and makes for a great non-Christmas spirit holiday song. All in all, this is a bad compilation. But the two aforementioned tracks, especially Angela Via's, make it worth five stars. Make sure you check out those songs! You won't be disappointed.
