4.5 Stars- Exellent, But Why The >>Edited<< Songs?,
By Pete "RUDESS=God" (The Glass Prison) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mtv2 Headbanger's Ball 2 (Audio CD)
This is one of the best CD compilations out there, only beat by Contaminated (Relapse records) and Uncorrupted Steel (Metal Blade). I will now go right into the sonsas I have a limited writing space...Disc 1 1. Duality - Slipknot - I really like this song. One of the best from thier best album. 5/5 2. Right Now - Korn - Don't like their new album much, but I guess this is one of the better ones. 4/5 3. Rose of Sharyn - Killswitch Engage - Great metalcore band. I really like this song. 5/5 4. Kick the Chair - Megadeth - Dave Mustaine rules! 5/5 5. Right Side of the Bed - Atreyu - I liked their first album, but the new one sucks! 0/5 6. Step Up - Drowning Pool - Not the same without Dave.... 2/5 7. Weak and Powerless - A Perfect Circle - Too mellow, should of had "Judith". 3/5 8. What Drives the Weak - Shadows Fall - AWESOME! SF dominates! 5/5 9. Imperium - Machine Head - Best song from their new album, but like I said...WHY the edited version? 4/5 10. Waiting for the Turning Point - Superjoint Ritual - Phil Anselmo is my hero. 5/5 11. Into the Darkness - Kittie -Okay band. Morgan's hot though. 4/5 12. Your Sweet 666 - Him - Too soft for this type of compilation. 3/5 13. Unholy Confessions - Avenged Sevenfold - This is possibly the only good song from their new album (first one rocks, though). 4/5 14. Laid to Rest - Lamb of God - The uncensored rules, but this version sucks. 0/5 15. Prophecy - Soulfly - Best song from the new album. 5/5 16. House of Doom - Black Label Society - Good song, but not the right sogn to be on this compilation. 4/5 17. Breathing New Life - Damageplan - Awesome band. R.I.P. Dimebag Darrell :'( 18. Quiet Place - In Flames - I'm so sick and tired of all their old fans saying "they sold out". 4/5 19. Archetype - Fear Factory - One of their best songs in general. 5/5 20. My Tortured Soul [Live] - Probot - Great band. 5/5 Disc 2 1. Medusa and Hemlock - Cradle of Filth - Great band. Dani's voice can be annoying though. 5/5 2. Great Dividers - Unearth - Great band. Tey're better live. 5/5 3. Antihero - God Forbid - Possibly the best metalcore band. 5/5 4. We Bury Our Dead at Dawn - The Agony Scene - Good song. 4/5 5. Needled 24/7 - Children of Bodom - Alexi Kaiho rules! Best song on collection! 5/5 6. Love Lost in a Hale of Gunfire - Bleeding Through - Decent track. 3/5 7. Like Light to the Flies [Demo] - Trivium - The best new band, IMHO. Hard to believe their singer is only 18! 5/5 8. Fuel for Hatred - Satyricon - Great black metal! 5/5 9. Rain to the Sound of Panic - Himsa - More great metalcore. 5/5 10. Deadly Sinners - 3 Inches of Blood - I lve the line "Enemies of metal, your death is our reward." Why doesn't anyone like this band? 4/5 11. Contagion - The Black Dahlia Murder - Metalcore? Hell no! 5/5 12. I Been Gone a Long Time - Every Time I Die - Ok. 3/5 13. She Speaks to Me - Blood Has Been Shed - Howard Jones' other band, better than KSE. 5/5 14. Waiting for the Heavens - Eighteen Visions - One of the only good songs from their new CD. 4/5 15. Scars of the Crucifix - Deicide - Rules. 5/5 16. Deepest Gray - All That Remains - Phil Labonte's new band is killer! 5/5 17. Venus Complex - Twelve Tribes - Good song. 4/5 18. Panasonic Youth - The Dillinger Escape Plan - Some good math-core. 5/5 19. American Hollow - Martyr AD - Okay. 4/5 20. Progenies of the Great Apocalypse - Dimmu Borgir - Great band! 5/5 Overall, a great compilation. $15 for 40 tracks? Why not?

Good Selection of Bands,
By
This review is from: Mtv2 Headbanger's Ball 2 (Audio CD)
This is a great two disc set! There is a great selection of artists both well known and some up and coming artists. What I enjoy most about this disc is that there are several different genres of metal music on this. This disc has the possibility of introducing some realy great established bands to a new fan base.

Good Compliation,
This review is from: Mtv2 Headbanger's Ball 2 (Audio CD)
I enjoy compilation albums. IT gives a chance to preview bands you may not get a chance to hear otherwise. This is one of the better compilation albums that I have heard. The second disc is much better then the first as the first contains a lot of tracks you can hear on the radio. I'd give the first disc 3 stars and the second 5.Trivium, Children of Bodom , The Agony Scene and Deicide are some of the many highlights here.

let me just steal pete's review....,

can't argue with the man(well, ya i can), this is some good stuff...excluding about half the first disc. This is a great album to "expand your horizons" for those that might not be quite certain of which type of metal is for them....or you could just find out about some good bands...like BDM!!!...and ya, needled 24/7 is the best song on the album.

MTV2 Headbangers Ball: Volume 2,
By Matt "headbanger" (Rhode Island) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mtv2 Headbanger's Ball 2 (Audio CD)
I bought the CD yesterday and listened to both discs on the plane ride home from Florida, so I got to listen to all of it. I must say it is a truly great compilation. There are some songs that aren't exactly the best, but there are some exceptional songs.DISC ONE: More of the artists that you hear mainstream (therefore not quite as good as the other disc). "Duality" and "Right Now" are not the most impressive songs that Slipknot and Korn have ever done, but they're still pretty good. "Rose of Sharyn" by Killswitch Engage is one of the highlights of this disc. "Kick The Chair", "Right Side Of The Bed" and "Step Up" are all good songs. I'd classify most APC under progressive rock so I don't know why "Weak And Powerless" is on here, even though it is a good song. I got the new Shadows Fall CD too and "What Drives The Weak" is another great song. "Imperium" is another real good song. "Waiting For The Turning Point" sounds too punky, and its only 1:26. "Into The Darkness", "Your Sweet Six Six Six" and "Unholy Confessions" are all very good songs as well. The other two highlights of this disc are "Laid To Rest" by Lamb Of God and "Prophecy" by Soulfly. "House Of Doom" was truly a letdown for me. "Breathing New Life", "The Quiet Place" and "Archetype" are another batch of good songs. "My Tortured Soul" isn't really all that good and making it live doesnt make it any better. HIGHLIGHTS: "Rose Of Sharyn" by Killswitch Engage "Laid To Rest" by Lamb Of God "Prophecy" by Soulfly DISC TWO: The more underground metal bands. "Medusa And Hemlock" is an exceptional song, but nothing special for Cradle of Filth. "The Great Dividers", "Antihero", "We Bury Our Dead At Dawn" and "Needled 24/7" make another batch of great songs. "Love Lost In A Hail Of Gun Fire" is the best song on either CD. Bleeding Through is probably the best band on the compilation as well. "Like Light To Flies" and "Fuel For Hatred" are also good songs. "Rain To The Sound Of Panic" by Himsa is an amazing song, one of the best on the disc. "Deadly Sinners" by Three Inches Of Blood shows a preview of the future of metal, where this band will be one of the elite. All the rest of the songs are good, especially "Progenies Of The Great Apocalypse". HIGHLIGHTS: "Love Lost In A Hail Of Gun Fire" by Bleeding Through "Rain To The Sound Of Panic" by Himsa "Deadly Sinners" by 3 Inches Of Blood Overall, this CD is the best metal compilation out there. I advise you to take a listen to the second CD much more than the first so you can discover true metal and the future of metal at its finest.

A very diverse mix,
By
This review is from: Mtv2 Headbanger's Ball 2 (Audio CD)
What's good about it?Disc 1: All the hard rock heavyweights flex their music muscle here. Chunky bass and guitar riffing dominates Korn's "Right Now". Megadeth (minus everyone but Mustaine) return from the dead with "Kick the Chair". Dave's miraculous recovery from a nerve damaged hand is apparent on the frantic opening riff. The speed metal days are over, but the heaviness and distain for politics remain. Drowning Pool's supercharged fighting anthem "Step Up" is sure to get your blood pumping. There's plenty of Pantera leftovers with Superjoint Ritual's "Waiting for the Turning Point" and Damageplan's "Breathing New Life". Newcomers Lamb of God are quite vicious on "Laid to Rest", while Kittie show you how sharp their claws are on "Into the Darkness". Disc 2: I have to admit that I despise death metal and the like, but it would be unfair for me to dismiss disc 2 as crap. If you're into blood-curling, snarling, angry vocal from the pits of hell and thunderous, piercing, teeth rattling guitars and rhythms, finished off with some of the darkest, evilest lyrics, they you will love disc 2. It's nothing but the best of death, black, and occult metal. I would like to point out that I actually liked Cradle of Filth's "Medusa and Hemlock". Dani Filth has finally decided to use his deep snarl over his high-pitched wail that sounds like a dying cat. The band is as good as ever. Hopefully it's a sign of what's to come. They haven't sold out, but I think they've found their balance. Also check out Ozzfest 2004 main stage act Dimmu Borgir on "Progenies Of The Great Apocalypse". Anything bad? Okay Fear Factory and Korn, it's time to try something new. You're latest songs sound like your last five albums. You've conquered that sound, now tweak it. Bottom Line Forty songs for under $15, you can't go wrong! A very diverse mix.

Better than the first,
This review is from: Mtv2 Headbanger's Ball 2 (Audio CD)
BUY IT!!!! I didn't think it was possible but the people at MTV did TWO things right in their lives. They released the Headbangers Ball discs. Collection 2 is actually better than the first. Like the first collection, disc one has mostly better known bands(korn slipknot, megadeth) but they managed to through in some lesser known ones too. The best song on the frst disc is The Quiet Place by In Flames. They are getting to be the next big thing. Disc two starts strong with a personal favorite of mine, Cradle of Filth. The cut that impressed me the most was Children of Bodom with Needled 24/7. This song just plain rules. Get these cds right now.

Muppet Metal?,

I bought this as a cool compilation and to sample the bands I wouldn't normally buy as a whole album. Disc 1 was o.k. only because it features top metal bands/songs from music I already own. Disc 2 was better, since it had a better variety of 'new' music, until I got to track 15. Scars of the Crucifix, by DeicideI almost broke my furniture laughing so hard. Typical speed/thrash music, but the lead singer sounds exactly like the Cookie Monster from Sesame Street. Me, I don't get these death metal bands that have incomprehensible lead singers who gutterally gargle their lyrics.

Despite the editing in some of the songs which really blows. Vol 2 is much better with some of the best bands in hard rock and heavy metal, and I gotta say with kick ass songs from Slipknot, Machine Head, Deicide, Children Of Bodom, Superjoint Ritual, Shadows Fall, Dimmu Borgir, Cradle Of Filth, and great newcomers in God Forbid, Unearth, Trivium, Himsa, God Forbid, and Martyr AD, this collection is back with a vengence. Forget all that Now That's What I Call Music garbage, Headbanger's Ball is the only way to go. Rock On
