To Good To Put Down,
By A Customer
This review is from: Too Much of a Good Thing (Roby, Kimberla Lawson) (Hardcover)
I have to give it to Mrs. Roby, this was an excellent book. I advise anyone one that has read "Casting The First Stone" to read "Too Much of a Good Thing". And if you haven't read "Casting The First Stone" you need to, because it's an excellent read and the sequel is the "BOMB". Once again Curtis Black let the devil intervene, and cause more problems. I love reading Mrs. Roby books and I hope somehow she can come up with a sequel to the sequel.

Girls - listen this book is totally worth ALL THE DIMES that you have to spend to get it. Now you have to read Casting the First Stone before reading this one to get the true "madness" of all of this church mess. I read the book in a day and a half....couldn't put it down. I am not one to give you the details of the book...I just want to let you know Curtis is a MAD FOOL! hahahahaha No - he hasn't learned a thing...and the self-righteousness of this man is unreal. I don't know who Kimberly had to talk to or where she had to go for her research but .... there is no way she doesn't know of a Curtis Black somewhere is real life. LOL Like another reader said...this book doesn't disappoint in the least....it just gets mo betta! This is a good one...but then again...with Kimberly's talent for writing I didn't expect anything less... Girl - you are simply BRILLIANT!!! I got a feeling we might just see this man again...............

The Truth Is The Light!!!,

This review is from: Too Much of a Good Thing (Roby, Kimberla Lawson) (Hardcover)
This book was awesome!! I have read all of Ms. Roby's books and they are superb!! In her last novel, Too Much Of A Good Thing, she takes a realistic view of what is happening in a large number of churches in today's society. It is truly sad that some pastors and churches are not in to saving souls, which is truly the mission of the church, but they are into gaining monetary funds for material items. The novel centers around Rev. Curtis Black, who is Satan in the pulpit trying to lead his flock straight to hell. Rev. Black is weak in the spirit and the flesh and uses the church and his wife for his own personal gains. There are some officers and members of the church who are on to Rev. Black's schemes and put a stumbling block in his way to prevent the demise of the church. Ms. Roby does an excellent job conveying to individuals that you are to serve the one and only God and not man!! I hope readers will gain knowledge from this book that they may use and apply to their own church life.-reviewed by Leyonta Sears for www.avid-readers.com

Well done Ms. Roby!!! Even better than its predecessor!,

This sequel to "Casting the first stone" was even better. Curtis is definitely the vilan you just love to hate. The only thing that I didn't like about the book was the part were Ms. Roby tries to turn it into a soap opera by aging the characters. Alicia was six in the last book. The scene in this book takes place five years later but now she's fourteen. What's that about? The way the book is set up and the way all of the characters go through twists and turns, especially the dangers of minors and the internet, makes it hard to put this book down. There just has to be a trilogy to this Curtis saga. The ending gives clues that it will be. I just hope we don't have to wait another three years like we did for this one. Keep up the good work Ms. Roby.

If you like drama...,
By Avid-Readers.com (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Too Much of a Good Thing (Roby, Kimberla Lawson) (Hardcover)
For those of you that love drama, this is the book for you. Curtis Black is back to pastor Truth Missionary Baptist Church and he's up to his old tricks in the sequel to Casting the First Stone. Mariah Johnson, Black's new wife learns early in the marriage that she has made a huge mistake. Curtis makes it clear that he does not love her and pretty much dares her to leave him. Curtis, now back in the arms of the other woman Adrienne thinks she will be all he needs, until he remembers, Charlotte, the mother of his son, could make him feel better then either Adrienne or Mariah. If that's not enough, Alicia, Black's 14 year old daughter is feeling neglected and looking for the love her father will not give her on the Internet. I could not get enough of this page turner. In fact, I plan on reading Casting the First Stone next. Great Job Kimberla Reviewed by Valissa for www.avid-readers.com

It's About Time,

This review is from: Too Much of a Good Thing (Roby, Kimberla Lawson) (Hardcover)
For too long, black ministers have taken advantage of their congregations. There are some very faithful and sincere black ministers but the others taint and destroy. They feed upon their congregations to satisfy their own appetites.Kimberla Lawson Roby's book tells the story as it really happens. She writes with clarity and an understanding of how these pretenders do their work- neither in service to the God they pretend to honor nor to the trusting and oftentimes naive congregations they are to serve. Black communities face many obstacles and unfortunately, they continue to show allegiance to black clergy who show allegiance to only themselves.

Not enough Umph!,

This review is from: Too Much of a Good Thing (Roby, Kimberla Lawson) (Hardcover)
Although I enjoyed reading TMOAGT, I thought Ms. Roby could have had more flava to her writing. It was almost like she held back, and gave more along the lines of a step by step guide of the plot...but it was for the most a take-my-time-read because I already knew where it was going...too predictable. I didn't race through it like CTFS perhaps because that was my first introduction to greedy Pastor Curtis Black.

MS. ROBY HAS DONE IT AGAIN. TOO MUCH OF A GOOD THING, A CONTEMPORARY NOVEL BY K. L. ROBY IS A DEFINITE MUST READ. IT BRINGS TO LIFE SOME REAL LIFE SITUATIONS OF THE CHURCH AS WELL AS OUR DAILY LIFESTYLES. MS. ROBY WRITES ABOUT THE ISSUES OF INTERNET DATING WITH MINORS, ADULTERY, VARIOUS POLITICAL SCHISMS IN THE CHURCH, AND MANY OF SOCIETY'S EXCESSIVE IDIOSYNCRASIES. THIS NOVEL WAS VERY ENTERTAINING AS WELL AS THOUGHT PROVOKING.

Lust Of The Flesh,

This review is from: Too Much of a Good Thing (Roby, Kimberla Lawson) (Hardcover)
I just had to go back and read "Casting The First Stone." I enjoyed reading about the life of a jackleg preacher. I've heard about them, but I've never really met one (as far as I know). This was a good book. I read a book just recently called "Lust Of The Flesh" and this book reminds me of the preacher in that book.

I enjoyed reading Too much of a good thing. I couldn't put the book down. It kept me wanting to read more. Curtis Black is still up to no good. Kimberla Lawson Roby keeps you interested in the book the whole time you are reading. I would suggest this book along with any of her others to be read by everyone. Its a page turner. Great book to read.
