Mucinex is a lifesaver,

I have dealt with congestion, both pulmonary and sinus, for many years. Back in the day, I could get plain guaifenesin by prescription, but Mucinex is a fine substitute. Pricey, true, but so worth it to keep secretions thin so I am able to get rid of them. For me, it thins sinus congestion equally as well as chest, so that sinuses are able to drain and relieve the inevitable headache. This is the best price per tablet that I have found to date, and I will continue to purchase from Amazon.

Mucinex Works Only If You...,

This review is from: Mucinex Maximum Strength Extended-Release Bi-Layer Tablets, 28 Count (Health and Beauty)
Mucinex is guaifenesin that is also found in the long time product Robitussin only stronger and made in tablet form so it can be time-released. There are NO drying agents found in guaifenesin or plain Mucinex. Guaifenesin is an expectorant it thins the mucous and makes it easier to get rid of. It will not dry you out, it will actually make whatever mucous you have thinner and hydrate your nasal and throat passages. The only drawback is you MUST, under ALL circumstances, drink plenty of water while taking Mucinex or else it will NOT work, plain and simple. When first taking extra strength, 1200 mg, Mucinex, get a quart of your favorite bottled water, yes a QUART, not a pint, and drink this within a few hours of taking the Mucinex. At first you would want to drink at least 16 ounces of the water, then within the next hour drink the remaining water in the bottle. After that get your self another quart or two of water and drink it througout the course of the 12 hours while the Mucinex is still in your system. You really want to drink a gallon of water during the 12 hour period while taking Mucinex. Mucinex will NOT work and could having drying effects if you do NOT drink a lot of water, you MUST keep yourself completely hydrated during the course of taking Mucinex. If you don't it will not work and you will be wasting your money.

The active ingredient in this medication is Guaifenesin, which loosens phlegm and increases the lubrication of your lungs allowing so your cough is more productive and your bronchial passages stay clear. If you're like me and have lots of bronchial congestion and asthma type symptoms in the spring when there's lots of pollen in the air or if you're just suffering because of a cold, you want something that will work to relieve it without making you jittery like some medications and one that you don't have to worry about taking every 4 or 5 hours. I've had good luck with this one.I'd tried the regular strength Mucinex, the one in the green box, which contains the ingredients 600 mg Guaifenesin and 30 mg Dextromethorphan HBr when I had one of those coughs that seem to go on forever, one that kept me up at night, due to a cold. It worked well on the cough but wasn't strong enough to keep my lungs clear. I still had that tightness in my chest. This one contains only the Guaifenesin, but it has 1200 mg which is strong enough to do the job. I haven't had a cough since trying it, so I don't know if it would help with that. The instructions say to drink plenty of fluids because it draws liquid into the bronchi. The water both thins mucus and lubricates the airway, facilitating the removal of mucus by coughing. Some people have mentioned their nasal passages or throat feeling dry after taking this medication but I haven't noticed that. Maybe it's because I drink a lot of water. (And Diet Coke) I haven't noticed any side effects after taking it for a few days. The tablets are a little large, probably because they're time released, so if you have a problem swallowing pills, these could be a little difficult. I like that I only have to remember to take them every 12 hours. Actually, the effects seem to last a few hours past that. 2115|R2X7YBK8GEQQLJ;2115|R1CGODWQXD4XM6;2115|R2DRVDUWCTXH5Y;
