hands can say so much
arranged like a dictionary or encyclopedia, this volume presents line drawings of numerous mudras. Beside the pictoral representations are explanations of the origin, meaning, and "construction" of each mudra. i have encountered the topic of mudras most often surrounding yoga, however, this volume presents them as they relate to the various hindu and buddhist icons...

This review is from: Mudras in Buddhist and Hindu Practices: An Iconographic Consideration (Hardcover)
arranged like a dictionary or encyclopedia, this volume presents line drawings of numerous mudras. Beside the pictoral representations are explanations of the origin, meaning, and "construction" of each mudra. i have encountered the topic of mudras most often surrounding yoga, however, this volume presents them as they relate to the various hindu and buddhist icons. this is why i found it most useful and intriguing. it has shed an entirely new light on the statuary i own and allowed me a deeper appreciation of each.
