Pain when I run. No pain when I run with Mueller Patella Stabilizer Knee Brace, Medium, Black, 1-Count Package. What more do you need to know?
This...

If you have freakishly large calves like me, then you may need to try something else. I've only run with them for two weeks now and hoped they'd "break-in", but circulation to my calves is still being cut too much. The pressure is very tight and calf muscles feel like they're starving for oxygen after just a few minutes (not normal for me), all of which is relieved by removing the brace. Because they're so effective from the knee-up, I'm planning to cut the bottom band to give my calves some slack. The fabric might need some mending after this, but should do the trick...

4/13/2012 UPDATE: Instad of cutting some slack into the calve elastic, I just stretched them around a partially-used roll of duct tape and let them sit for ~ 36 hours each. Now they fit just fine and PFS doesn't limit my runs! I highly recommend this product.

I have patellafemoral pain syndrome in my knees [...]. This essentially means I have a floating kneecap that grinds against my femur, causing pain. It made the aikido martial arts class I had been taking a lot more painful than necessary (requires a lot of low knee bending and squatting). Although these braces only stop the lateral motion in my knees, it stabilizes them enough that I can get through a class without severe pain, and am in much less pain than I am when I do not wear them to the class.

As a note, I bought the medium ones, and they were EXTREMELY tight the first time I put them on, to the point of cutting off circulation. The second time they were better, and now they slip on very easily (off is still not easy but I think that has a lot to do with workout sweat) and they're loose enough that I stretch the strap to the edge to keep them on. I recommend putting them on once or twice just sitting around in your home before you use them to exercise in to make sure you stretch them out. I've found that to be true for other types of knee braces too, so I was not surprised when it happened with these.

Great knee braces, I usually look for Mueller above other brands : They haven't disappointed me yet.

I recommend this product for several reasons: first, it works as advertised, keeping my knee stabilized, which, having no cartilage in my right knee, I badly need. It is also very comfortable, and easy to put on and adjust. I wear a Mueller Knee Sleeve on my left knee to prevent injury, and one on my right knee over a Mueller Knee Sleeve. The combination is just right.

I dislocated my knee a while back, and now want to wear braces whenever I go dancing just to be safe. I used another version of a patella stabilizer that my physical therapist gave me, but it was uncomfortable and needed to be adjusted after every dance.

This brace, however, made my knee feel rock-solid. After initial placement it required no adjustment for an entire night of vigorous swing dancing (as a lead). It was also extremely comfortable insomuch as there are no places that in catches or rubbed on my skin.

Do note, however, that it does decrease range of motion. I think I had about 30 degrees of motion with no problem, and another 60 degrees that I could bend my knee, but felt resistance. Read this as: activities that take place while standing were fine. It was possible to do stairs, but it does take effort to bend the knee that far: I'd rather avoid having to bend my knee that much with the brace on.

I bought the small size, and have a 13.5 inch knee. The sizing guide isn't on amazon for some reason, I had to find the manufacturer's website to find the size guide. It said that a small was sized for knees 12-14 inches, measured around the kneecap.

Last night I excitedly put on my new knee brace and raced off to the gym to see if I could run...only to realize that I couldn't without feeling like the lower half of my leg was going to fall off. I'm 5'2" (on a good day), and it quickly became obvious that this product is made for someone taller... The brace came too far down my calf and severely limited my range of movement, hence cutting off circulation when I tried to move beyond what it would allow. On the plus side, it does offer a ton of stability!!

I measured my knee and bought the size medium per instructions (my knee is 14.5 so just into the medium) The brace is really tight. definitely provides stability for the knee. However, I am a runner and am suffering from "runners knee". I read the reviews of others who were so pleased that they could now run. I WOULD NOT recommend running in this. It provides way too much stability and limits the natural range of motion of the leg so much that the entire gate will be thrown off. Fix one area only to cause another problem further up the chain. Okay for walking.

Hard to find a good supportive brace that is comfortable and can be adjusted at both the thigh and calf. Great!
