From the Back Cover
A collector's dream began in 1984 with Muffy's first words "Life is one big dress up!" From that point on, the cute little 7" plush bear and her family have filled our world with adventures and many, many outfits. There was a Muffy for every occasion and even some other family members like Cornelius, Alice, Fluffy, Fuzzy, Hoppy, Oatsie, and Lulu to join in the fun!
Enthusiasm for this sweet little bear, her family and friends led to the creation of a special Collector's Club in 1990. Muffy's fans continue to grow every day!
This guide provides the most current information on Muffy, her family and friends from their inception in 1983 to present day. Each bear (or family collection) is organized chronologically by year of introduction, then followed by detailed descriptions of: actual members, costumes, year of retirement, special features/accessories, and full color photos. Special sections include Muffy's Collector's Club items, Bare Muffy identification, and current collector values for all your Muffy bear-aphernalia!
About the Author
Ann Gehlbach lives in Sarasota, Florida with her husband Don. They have been collecting bears for over 10 years. Ann was bitten by the "Muffy Bug" about 8 years ago, when she purchased her first Muffy for her daughter's Christmas present. She has been an avid collector ever since. Five years ago their bear collection outgrew their home and Ann and Don opened Village Bears & Collectibles on Siesta Key, Florida. Soon, their daughter, who is also a collector, joined them as the shop manager. Frustrated at being unable to answer customers' questions about Muffy, Ann decided to compile a VanderBear history as a reference guide for herself. That little project soon got out of hand and after three years of research, that original 3 page history had grown into a book! Ann has met hundreds of Muffy collectors in the past five years from all over the world. Many have become cherished friends and each one helped to write this guide to Muffy's life...each day brought another phone call or E-mail with a newly discovered variation. Through this experience, Ann has found that Muffy fanatics all have two things in common...a sense of humor and a devotion to Muffy. After all, who could not love a little seven inch bear who loves dressing up and has so much fun.
