This review is from: Mugglenet.Com's What Will Happen in Harry Potter 7: Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Falls in Love and How Will the Adventure Finally End (Paperback)
MuggleNet.com is probably one of the most comprehensive Harry Potter fan sites availabe today. If you are a Harry Potter fan and haven't checked this site out yet...you need to!

This book is Mugglenet.com's labor of love. The site is so devoted to Harry Potter, that it has produced this book as an answer to some of the questions stewing inside fellow Harry Potter fans after the close of Book 6, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince". Topics this book explores include Dumbledore (is he *really* dead, or isn't he?), life debts (how is the life debt that Wormtail owes to Harry going to come into play?), the identity of R.A.B. (they deduced the same thing I had, and thats that the identity of R.A.B is none other than Regulus Black, Sirius's younger brother!), Questions surrounding the Horcruxes, Professor Snape (good or bad?), and so much more!. There is even a section that discusses each character in relation to their odds of living or dying in Book 7 -- each character receives a well-thought out statistic as far as what are the odds that they will not survive through Book 7, and then a short but detailed reason is given for that character's score. Why would they be a prime target, or perhaps, why *wouldn't* they be a prime target...

Like most unauthorized books discussing various aspects of the world of Harry Potter, this book is truly pure speculation -- albeit well-thought out and researched speculation. Let your imagination go wild, and ponder some of these nagging questions with all the zeal and fandom you can muster!

Admittedly, there isn't much in this book that can't be found on their website, or in a multitude of other Harry Potter "whats going to happen?" theory books -- but I'm a firm believer that half the fun is in researching each and every theory possible! While this book does repeat a lot of information previously produced, it also helps give a little extra insight into the world of Harry Potter. True Potter fans will enjoy it, even if most of it is either steadily repeated information, or ideas they have already thought of or theorized for themselves.

Bottom line, if you're an avid devotee to the website, then the purchase of this book probably isn't worth it. If you're not, you just might enjoy this book, which may possibly be one of the last of it's kind before J.K. Rowling publishes book number 7, and ends the mystery and suspense for us all!

Bottom line, I solemly swear I am up to no good...

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly researched and extremely entertaining, November 23, 2006

This review is from: Mugglenet.Com's What Will Happen in Harry Potter 7: Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Falls in Love and How Will the Adventure Finally End (Paperback)
Everyone knows that JK Rowling gave Emerson Spartz of MuggleNet a personal interview in her own home a while back. Reading this book makes me wonder if she didn't leak a few major secrets about HP 7 to him in the process. This book's theories are so logical and well-thought out that they seem like they'll HAVE to happen. The authors take you through all the major plot points and loose ends that remain to be wrapped up in Book 7: Snape, Malfoy, Harry's Scar, Life Debts, the Horcruxes, the big battle, RAB, all the major relationships, and more. All their predictions are based on solid logic set up in previous books. There are no wild, crazy leaps in logic here (though some of their predictions are pretty bold and shocking--especially what they say about one of the Horcruxes!). In the end, of course, these are just theories and not the real thing. But these theories are a fantastic way to tide you over until the final HP book comes out. And they won't spoil the final book either, since only JK knows what will really happen. In fact, after reading this book, I'm more excited than ever for the final Harry Potter installment. Way to go, MuggleNet. You guys have made a great book.

This is a great book for all real Potter fans who are climbing the walls waiting for Book 7 to appear.
All Potter fans have ideas as to how everything will come together and how the war in the wizarding world will play out. This book weaves together the various scenarios and suggests the most likely.
"What Will Happen" is a must have for all who love Harry and friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars A top pick for Harry fans who are on tetherhooks for the concluding novel., January 6, 2007
This review is from: Mugglenet.Com's What Will Happen in Harry Potter 7: Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Falls in Love and How Will the Adventure Finally End (Paperback)
The experts at [...] have analyzed the first six Harry Potter titles for hidden clues on what might happen in the final book, so any Potter fan speculating on the final adventure will find much to fascinate in What Will Happen in Harry Potter 7. Owners of all the Potter books will have much to consider here, from questions on whose side Snape's on to whether Ron and Hermione's relationship will last, and whether Harry will really defeat Voldemort in a final showdown. A top pick for Harry fans who are on tetherhooks for the concluding novel.

"Mugglenet.com's What Will Happen in Harry Potter 7" is a speculation book about what will happen in the final book of the Harry Potter series, which we all now know to be called "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." It's true that most of the information in it can already be found on the Internet and it's also true that there's a lot of stuff in here that probably are already aware of. But I think for a lot of people, and certainly for me, half the fun is reviewing this stuff and speculating. And there's certainly value in having a book for it --- after all, most of us at least go out and buy the "Harry Potter" books, so there's no harm I can see in having a book for speculation about it.

Much of what's in this book is probably going to be true, other stuff, is, inevitably, going to be off-the-mark. Rowling always delivers twists-and-turns and that's the name of the game. For example, this book gets wrong a couple of things we already know about --- it predicts the title of the book won't be given until about a year before the release date (not even close!) and predicts a summer 2008 release date with "summer 2007 out of the question" because of the "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" movie being released at that time (dead wrong!)

That said, this book has some points that really resonated with me on several subjects --- particularly Dumbledore - dead or alive (the book has a very split perspective on this with some compelling arguments on both sides, some of which I hadn't read before) and Snape's true allegiance (largely in line with my own views and much more certain.) This book also has interesting speculation on the horcruxes, the resolution of some major character issues and even a table-of-odds as to which characters will and won't survive. (My personal worry is that Hermione Granger will perish, despite the book giving reasonably good odds on her survival.)

If you're a "Harry Potter" fan, even one who's only mildly-interested (i.e. reads the books, etc., but perhaps doesn't closely follow fanfics, etc.), I think this book is certainly worth a look. I actually checked it out from the library, but you'll have to decide for yourself how you want to get your hands on it.

Because there is nothing exclusive here. I dislike this book because it capitalizes on the ideas of the entire Harry Potter community. The ideas presented here do no belong solely to the authors; they belong to the many people who write and conjecture about the Harry Potter series publicaly (mostly online) every day. There is nothing about the authors of this book that make their ability to predict the what will happen any more authoritative than hundreds of other savvy fans, and their ideas have been shaped and influenced by years of discussion by thousands of people. As someone who has belonged for years to the internet Harry Potter community, it disgusts me that a handful of people would use the collective ideas of a community for their own gain. (Read: I would be cool with it if the profits went to charity.) If this is the best venue of Harry Potter prediction you've found, try looking around on the internet a bit, because what is here is not particularly exceptional.

5.0 out of 5 stars Harry Potter Book 6-3/4, November 22, 2006
By
This review is from: Mugglenet.Com's What Will Happen in Harry Potter 7: Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Falls in Love and How Will the Adventure Finally End (Paperback)
I am *truly* impressed by the scope of the Harry Potter knowledge of these five authors. They identified some minute details of the first six books (and dozens of J.K.Rowling interviews). They then wove these details together flawlessly to support the authors' views of what will happen in Book 7.

This is actually quite an exciting book. In some ways, it's like a mini Book 7. As I read, I kept wondering if J.K.R. will read the book before she finishes writing Book 7. I can just see J.K.R. smiling and hear her saying, "Hmmm. How'd they ever figure *that* out?? Oh well, I'll just have to rewrite that part to show them it's *my* book, not Mugglenet's!"

A small point (but something that really impressed me) was the writing skills of the authors. Their English teachers over the years should be very proud of them!

An excellent job, Mugglenet.com.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not just for in-too-deep Harry Potter theorists, April 29, 2007
This review is from: Mugglenet.Com's What Will Happen in Harry Potter 7: Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Falls in Love and How Will the Adventure Finally End (Paperback)
What do you do if you're a Harry Potter fan and find the next three months far too long a wait for The Deathly Hallows? You reread all of the books yet again, consult the notes you may have taken, tighten up your theories, perhaps watch all of the films again, and spend hours and hours discussing your thoughts online, or perhaps trolling. And if that isn't enough, there's a wealth of books available. This happens to be the bestselling "ancillary" Harry Potter book on the market, and it's easy to understand why.

That it's from mugglenet.com certainly helps. Comfortably into his dotage at the wizened age of 12, Emerson Spartz founded mugglenet.com and created a phenomenon, the #1 Harry Potter fan site in the world with 20 million hits per month. (Now there's a word that you don't often hear in conjunction with Harry Potter: phenomenon. And JKR herself must have been jealous when the name Emerson Spartz was made known to her. It belongs in one of her books!)

Aside from the free advertising the book gets, it's also the most accessible of all, if also *perhaps* the most slanted. These guys know what they believe, and they stand firmly behind it, sometimes ignoring other theories out-of-hand, or not even discussing them. For example, in the Snape chapter, they come to a logical conclusion that misses a step or two. They say that when Snape catches Harry looking at one of his old memories in HBP (Snape's Worst Memory), Snape immediately knows that it's a memory of James because those are the only memories that Snape put into the Pensieve (that's the somewhat illogical "reasonable" conclusion they arrive at). What they don't consider is that Snape probably knows what Harry saw because Snape is an accomplished Legilimens and Harry isn't worth his weight in tea leaves as an Occlumens. To me it makes more sense that Snape knew what Harry saw because he read his mind. Who knows what Harry might have seen if Snape hadn't returned when he did! I certainly hope that Harry would have been something similar, as the book suggests, but those other two memories could have been much, much darker.

Their chapter on Harry being a Horcrux was superb, and did examine all of the evidence. They believe that he is, but they presented the other argument clearly and convincingly.

The dozens of possible outcomes, and how they're treated, is what makes all of these books so much darned fun. I feel like a dotard of twelve myself when reading this; it's a jolt of youth serum.

If you're wondering which book of the dozen or so out there to read, I would recommend this one. It devotes each chapter to a topic, and does a wonderful job of citing the source materials from which it quotes. It doesn't get as deep as some of the other books do, but it covers more territory. It also can be read by a casual reader of the books, and not only by obsessed fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Well Reasoned Analysis..., May 15, 2007

This review is from: Mugglenet.Com's What Will Happen in Harry Potter 7: Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Falls in Love and How Will the Adventure Finally End (Paperback)
If you're like me, you are reading these reviews in order to see whether it is worth your money/while to read this book. Also, I assume you wouldn't be researching this book if you didn't have more than a casual interest in the Harry Potter Series.

If you want a book that prepares you for the upcoming release of the 7th Harry Potter Book, then I can reccomend this as an excellent read.

It is well written and well organized. I don't always agree with all of their conclusions, but intelligent speculation is exactly what one is looking for in a book like this. One thing I really liked was that they didn't pursue rediculously speculative solutions to the Harry Potter Series.

If I had one quibble, it is that sometimes they treat their inferences and conclusions as facts and then use them to venture into new areas. But it's nitpicking. If you don't take a stand with a book like this it just becomes a bunch of unsatisfying "could be", "might be", "in my opinion" wishy-washy mush. On the whole I think they did a very good job of seeking facts from the books and from J.K. Rowling interviews, extrapolating intelligent inferences from those facts and then drawing reasoned conclusions.

You don't really expect a book like this to get all of it's predictions right. The purpose of a book like this is to add pleasure to the reading of the upcoming Deathly Hallows by allowing one to observe clues one might have otherwise overlooked and to better make reasoned analysis of the book as it unfolds.

I gave this book five stars. I would normally only give it 4 stars because I think it was a very good book, but not one of the greats. But in it's niche - which is analysis of book 7 of the Harry Potter series - I doubt you can hope for anything better researched, thought through or clearly written as this. Thus the 5 stars. Good reading!

This book is great for the Potter fans who want to have something Potter-related to read while waiting for the 21th of July. It's a good summary of relevant facts on the books, and exposes interesting theories. This book, as many people pointed out, doesn't tells us attentive readers anything that we don't know already, but it's something nice to read about nevertheless. A good purchase.
