3.0 out of 5 stars Mujeres (women) is not from this world
Silvio Rodríguez does not belong to this world. Someone with such a talent for touching the most intimate fibres of your heart, turn your life upside down, make you cry, laugh, despair, rage, love and hate does not belong to this world... or this life. "Mujeres" is one of the best examples of this. Unfortunately only good Spanish speakers will...

5.0 out of 5 stars Silvio's "Mujeres", March 14, 2000

"Mujeres" is one of the best of Silvio's works if not his best. Only with a guitar and his voice Silvio displays here what many people in the Spanish speaking countries have known for years: He's probably the best songwriter of his generation in Latin America. Great melodies, poetic lyrics and a voice that sings every piece of his heart are the things you'll find in this album. All songs are good but among my favorites are "En estos dias", "Que hago ahora?", "Esto no es una elegia", "A donde van?", "Y nada mas" y "Ya no te espero". There's even a touch of humor in "Cierta historia de amor". In this album Silvio is simply wonderful ; just the perfect "trovador".

5.0 out of 5 stars Y Nada Mas, December 18, 2003
This review is from: Mujeres (Audio CD)
This is my Desert Island album. A co-worker played this album non-stop one summer, and I was just hooked. Of course, it was possibly the best summer of my life, so this music has that incredible association with it. I've carried this album around for years, and now I use it to calm my kids down when they are over-stimulated. Sometimes I laugh, sometimes I cry... but listening to this guy play always makes me happy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perhaps one of Silvio's best, January 3, 2002

Many, many years ago I bought this album in LP format as I was growing up (internally and physically). These tunes have accompanied my soul for decades. Why? Perhaps because Silvio's poetry and music have the rare ability of playing with your senses, heart and mind. Yes, as a previous reviewer mentioned, you need a sound knowledge of Spanish to fully enjoy it; however, the lyrics provided by the producer help a lot. Delicious metaphors, exquisite melodies, and some tongue-in-cheek poems are part of this CD that includes one of Silvio's most renowned songs: "Te Doy una Canción" (I give you a song), that was played by artists like Holly Near, and many singers from the New Latin American Song movement. "Mujeres" is a powerful homage to all women and the WOMAN to whom we all men belong. The surrealistic touch in most songs prevents them from becoming cliche or easy tunes. Besides if you try those tunes in your guitar you'll see your fingers tangled up! They seem to be easy but they are not! This CD is for all fans of Latin American music who cannot tolerate banality but yet, they are dreamers and lovers, "luchadores" for a better world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Por favor, quiero mi Mujeres!, March 6, 2001

Linda Rowland-Jones (Big Sur, CA United States) - See all my reviews

I remember this disc when it was an audio tape that I purchased in 1981 in Madrid, Spain. It was a wild year abroad and I was a college student absorbing as much as I could of love and life. This music was my salvation during the culture shock of re-entry to the US. I heard En estos dias on the radio a couple of weeks ago and it's positively haunting me. I have so many associations with the songs, Aceitunas, Hoy no puedo estar lejos de la casa y el arbol, Y nada mas...songs filled with tenderness for a delicious state of the soul...fullness. Singing these songs, the words feel great in my mouth. I'll keep checking back for this simple masterpiece of Silvio Rodriguez. Thank you. Linda Sonrisa Rowland-Jones Big Sur, CA

SOLO PUEDO DECIR QUE ESTE ALBUM ES MARAVILLOSO, Y QUE SI LO TIENES LO DIFUNDAS , YA QUE SU POESÍA DIFICILMENTE LA ENCUENTRAS EN CUALQUIER COMPOSITOR DE ESTOS TIEMPOS.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lo Mejor de Silvio, April 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Mujeres (Audio CD)
El disco mas lirico y de mayor riqueza musical de Silvio. Un poco mas evolucionado que los iniciales y sin temor a experimentar nuevos sonidos. No pierde la sencillez y compromiso de su mensaje. Es un disco de coleccion.

I can't find words to praise this work enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars ...si no lo tienes, tu te lo has perdido... que esperas?, February 9, 2008
This review is from: Mujeres (Audio CD)
