MUJHSE DOSTI KAROGE! (Let's Be Friends) is yet another example of why I'm hooked on Bollywood films. More often than not, Bollywood eschews Hollywood's veneer of modern sophistication (but, really, is nothing more than cynicism). These exuberant, unabashed Indian films, instead, prefer to tell stories which cling to the traditional values of family and friendship, love, sacrifice, and moral steadfastness. I find this refreshing and even comforting and, time and again, I'm compelled to return to this well. Good thing for me, with Bollywood being such a thriving industry, there's no fear of this well drying out.
The plot? Let's see: Raj, Pooja, and Tina are childhood pals in India. Raj has a crush on Tina, who is oblivious; Pooja is crushing on Raj, who is oblivious. On the verge of Raj and his family moving to London, Raj promises to faithfully correspond with Tina, who really couldn't care less. In London, Raj begins to send e-mails to Tina, but it's Pooja who writes back and who then signs off as Tina. Raj and "Tina's" correspondence continue for fifteen years, and Raj becomes even more enamoured of "Tina." One day, Raj declares that he and his folks are visiting India for two weeks. This throws Pooja in an anxious state as she confesses what she's done to Tina. The gregarious Tina agrees to pretend that she's been the one writing to Raj. But will the real Tina live up to Raj's expectations of his dream girl? And will Pooja be content to merely be the friend and the third wheel in the equation? Either way, only two of the three will have a happy ending... By the way, if you think that's all there is to the story, then you obviously haven't experienced a Bollywood film before. My plot summary covers only about one third of the film. There's more soap opera developments to come as complications pile up to frustrate the lovers. Fans of CYRANO DE BERGERAC and even of ROXANNE will be in familiar territory in MUJHSE DOSTI KAROGE! This film drips with scenes of unrequited love, wrenching looks of longing, and quiet, selfless sacrifices made in the name of friendship. The lovers' misery and yearning for each other are so tangible here that even Romeo and Juliet feel bad for them. The gorgeous trio of Hrithik Roshan (Raj), Rani Mukerji (Pooja), and Kareena Kapoor (Tina) play their parts to the hilt. I won't lie, my allegiance, from the get-go, was with Rani's Pooja, but Kareena's extroverted Tina won me over in the film's latter stages. Hrithik once again proves that he's more substantial than a handsome face and a buff body who can dance. Even when I was getting aggravated at his acting like an insensitive prat, this was actually a reflection of his effective performance. Plenty of songs here, mostly of the upbeat variety. The one I liked best is the fun and poppish "Oh My Darling," where Raj and Tina perform onstage. "Jaane Dil Mein" is an initially attractive love ballad which then suffers from too many callbacks, to the point where I finally grew immune to its melody. MUJHSE DOSTI KAROGE! is about friendship being chosen over love and how that choice ultimately affects three longtime friends. There aren't any bad guys here; instead, bad luck and ill circumstances combine to mess with everyone's lives. You'll end up wishing a happy resolution for everyone, but, of course, that can't be. It's a bittersweet outcome for someone even as that person graciously accepts it. Ah, old school romance. As I've mentioned, Bollywood has no qualms about being sentimental and over the top when it comes to matters of the heart. And I like it that way.

I absolutely loved this movie. The script wasn't much to talk about, but the chemistry between Hrithik and Rani was great. I bought this movie and have watched it several times--very entertaining...They both did a superb job. Highly recommended to those who enjoy a great love story.

... Indians ever go to a wedding and actually see the intended couple get married. Anyway, there are 2 really good song and dance numbers, maybe 3 depending on your taste, and some other good songs too. The "Medley" is quite wonderful and almost worth the price of the movie by itself. There are 14 lovely dancers in black dresses dancing with Uday Chopra in one dance that are quite stunning. I wish the focus was a little clearer on these dancers rather than favoring the stars so much. But still quite nice.
There are a lot of really nice scenes, especially the spin-the-bottle scene and the scene at the end when everyting gets resolved in a clever way - sending me to Wikipedia to try and understand the significance of what happened. If you like all the actors in this move you will love it. If you liked Jab We Met you will like this movie or vise versa. Kareena, Rani and Uday are suberb and Hrithick is excellent despite a little over-acting in a couple of scenes. This movie is an easy 5 for me in the context of why I watch Hindi films.

Kadi Ann's review is for an altogether different movie called "Mujhse Shaadi Karogi". "Mujhse Dosti Karoge!" has Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee.

Written by a 14 year old girl:
Hrithik Roshan does another incredible job of drawing you into the life of Raj, and the dilemma of inward beauty vs. outward beauty. This movie was very similar to Cyrano de Bergerac in that the author of the love letters is confused. Our whole family enjoyed this movie and would recommend it to others. When Raj and his family move to London so that his father can start a computer business, Raj is separated from his two childhood friends, Tina and Pooja. He leaves after making Tina promise to e-mail him on Pooja's computer. But Tina has better things to do and Pooja loves Raj but knows that he has only ever seen Tina's beauty. For fifteen years Pooja writes to Raj in Tina's name, so that she can remain part of his life. She tells him about herself, but he thinks it is Tina's life he is reading about. When Pooja discovers that Raj is coming home for two weeks, she reveals to Tina what she has done and asks her to pretend that she wrote the letters to Raj. Tina doesn't really want to go out with Raj until she sees that he is extremely handsome. Pooja once again has to watch the one she loves ignore her and fall for Tina's beauty. But Raj feels that something is wrong. Tina isn't really anything like her letters and he is so comfortable around Pooja, who seems to know everything he likes and has done. By the time Raj discovers that it was Pooja who wrote the letters to him, Tina has fallen in love with him and his father has promised that Raj will marry her. Will Pooja and Raj remain star-crossed lovers or will their gods intervene? This movie was really dramatic and had a lot of really great messages about love, friendship, and sacrifice. I thought the end came too quickly after all the drama, but was glad for a happy ending. Would I/Did I buy it? Yes Would I watch it again? YES Would I recommend it to friends? YES

The dance numbers are great in this movie; I love the male lead and he has amazing screen charisma with his co-stars. His eyes really convince you of his character's truths. The female leads are quite beautiful and believable in their portrayals.

I love Bollywood love stories and the acting in this did not disappoint me. I have watched this movie 8 times and still love it. My friend wanted to borrow it and I couldn't part with it. That's how much I loved it. There are some corny parts but over all 5 stars in my book
