Editorial Reviews

This film from Gary Keys focuses on the amazing saxophonist and arranger, Gerry Mulligan. His warm tone on the baritone and his delightful state persona are on full display, capturing a live show at Eric's in NYC in 1981. From his arrangements and playing on Miles Davis' Birth of the Cool to his quartet with Chet Baker, Mulligan will always be associated with Cool Jazz, but the music in this film touches on all aspects of Mulligan's 30 plus years of playing. Filmed with Keys' signature style of many close ups and no special effects, this snapshot features a master taking a look at his long and storied career with a crack band supporting his every move.

This is a 1980 quartet concert performance in the manner of the Swedish Concert of the the same year. The rhythm section is different. Bill Mays may be the pianist - No booklet no notes - Ive seen it in it's entirety and am writing this on the spur of the moment.
Gerry plays soprano on just 1 tune - So I didn't see it in it's complete entirety I skipped this track after hearing just 1 note. He used to play a bit of clarinet and I don't understand his attidude.
He repeats Around About Sundown from the Swedish Concert but all the other songs are different - 17 Mile Drive - For An Unfinished Woman - Walk On The Water - North Atlantic Run - Song For Strayhorn and K-4 Pacific

This is a remastered version of a video I already had. Great stuff. Nice room too, I saw the Dave Matthews Big Band there.
