This review is from: VEO Pro Multi Display USB to DVI VGA High Res Adapter External Video Card (Link up to 6 Displays) (Electronics)
This adaptor is like the rest of the ones using the Displaylink chip set. It lets you connect a DVI (or VGA, with included adaptor) monitor via a USB port, which is dandy for adding a monitor to a laptop. At the time I bought it, it was the least expensive one available, as well as claiming it could support two monitors (it can't).
The description says you can use one to hook up two monitors, which is false. The adaptor has a single DVI connector. Some might read it as saying you could hook up two monitors, one with the built-in graphics, and one with the USB to DVI adaptor, but the description goes on to claim that you can hook up six monitors using three of these USB to DVI adaptors, and that simply isn't the case. I'm using it with my Macbook, using the built-in screen, a monitor connected via the mini-DVI port on the Macbook, and another monitor connected via the USB to DVI adaptor, for a total of three screens. I'm using the 1.5b4 beta driver downloaded from [...], not the one that came with it. They all work smoothly, video is clear and crisp, dragging windows between monitors works as expected (if a little jerky sometimes). YouTube videos play reasonably well, to my surprise. Running them full screen at 1650 x 1280 yanks down the frame rate noticably. It works quite well and is the least expensive one out there, so aside from the dual monitor claims, it's a good bet.

I believe the product description has since been updated to indicate that each device connects one monitor, but that you can connect several monitors over USB if you purchase several of them.
Setup was easy - connect monitor to adapter, connect adapter to USB, install software on CDROM. You can pick your screen resolution(640x480,720x400,800x600,1024x768,1024x768,1152x864,1280x1024), color quality (16/32bit), screen rotation (rotate left, rotate right, upside down), where to extend (left, right, above, below) or to mirror your main monitor. Having a second monitor has spoiled me, and I don't know how I ever got along at work without one! I'm very satisfied with this purchase - best deal I was able to find to attach a second monitor to my workstation over USB (since the video card on it didn't have a second out). If you find yourself wanting a dual-monitor setup, but your PC's video card can't support it - this is the way to go! |
