3.0 out of 5 stars They're Smaller Than They Look
These are much smaller than the traditional GE mini lights, so be prepared to get a couple of sets if you have a big tree. These are much smaller than the traditional GE mini lights, so be prepared to get a couple of sets if you have a big tree. The major problem, however, is the gigantic power adapter that runs these things: it's so big that you can't put it anywhere on the tree -- you have to start your string on the ground level and hope that you can cover from top to bottom without another string. Also, you can't connect multiple sets because there's no socket to continue the string.

On the plus side, the choices of effects allows you to have a very vibrant or very sedate lighting effect or something in between. Kids will like them. Traditionalists won't.

1.0 out of 5 stars disappointing, January 2, 2011

The box says the lights will burn for 12,000 hours. After four weeks I counted 28 bulbs out on two strings. I had them in a window and they also looked gangly and unattractive. Surprised because they are made by Bethlehem lighting and I have found in the past they have good products. I am going back to rice lights next year.

These lights arrived with half of the crystal LED housings irreparably broken off (not that they stay on very well before they're broken) and the control box for the blinker settings in several pieces (no repairing that, either). They weren't worth the cost of shipping them back for a refund or replacement, so I'm just going to try to find a use for them that hopefully doesn't burn my house down.

Note, also, that--even if you are fortunate enough to receive a set of these lights in one unbroken piece--they lack a female plug on the terminal end, so you can't string them together, and the plug end has an AC/DC power brick the size of a small dog, so there's no hanging them anywhere.

My suggestion is to go to Lowe's or Home Depot and pay the extra few bucks for the General Electric brand LED lights--they have a three-year warranty and are extremely bright and durable. If you can find a sale, you might even save money--I got a bunch of 50-light strands for $3 apiece. Good luck!
