I had a difficult time figuring out how many stars to rate this tablet. If I rated it as it, out of the box, it would get one star. As I am an IT person by trade and modding things is a hobby of mine, I was able to get it to work so well, it gets 5 stars. The process of modifying the tablet to perform well is not too hard, but required some trial and error and research. I will detail the steps required to turn this tablet from a horrible user experience into awesome.

It is not a generic Chinese made tablet with little or no support. The tablet is made by TabletExpress, which appears to be an Oregon based company. My tablet was shipped from Maryland, and the contact number is also a Maryland number, so not really sure about the locations of the business, but it is a U.S. business, and the back of the tablet proudly states it was “Designed by Tabletexpress in US”. Just like almost every electronic device, it is made in some Asian country, but unlike a lot of the generic tablets out there, it feels better to me to have one designed in the U.S.

Before I get into the modding process, let me go over my evaluation of this tablet's hardware.

Screen: Amazing, great color and sharpness. Viewing angles are excellent. Brightness is very adequate, but not as bright as some higher end tablets. Plenty bright enough though. It comes with a screen protector preinstalled, and I like it. I almost pulled it off, as I read a couple of posts indicating it is more responsive without it. Although I am sure it is a bit more responsive, the screen protector offers minimal issue, and the real issue is the software. I am glad I kept it on, and applaud TabletExpress for shipping it preinstalled. I don’t know anyone who does that, and it is a nice touch.

Hi I finally got this rablet, it came in time, very nice packaging, you can tell this device comes from a seller inside the states. Everything seems to be working well so far. I have an Acer a700 so I`m going to compare both.

It came with android 4.1 (crap), so I flashed android 4.2 rom and runs smoother.
This is a N90FHDRK tablet
The sd mode resolution has the same 240 dpi as the acer, and there is no lag at all, smooth as silk
Same battery stamina as acer a700, 10 hours!!!
The screen is superb, better than the a700, and the acer`s screen is already very good.
The ui is smooth, better than acer
The speakers are crap, the a700 is ages ahead with his dolby system, but no big deal I have some nice bluetooth speakers and they work like a charm with this dragon touch tablet.
Both have crappy cameras, I don`t use them any way.
The build quality is superb, way better than the acer.
It has very good playstore compatibility, for example I can play nova3, not available on the acer.
It scored 16000 in antutu (sd mode), acer only scores 11000, and the gpu test are more than double than the a700.

The web scrolling is smoother in the acer, that only proves that the firmware has room for improvement.
I read someone complaining on the screen sensitivity of these retina tablets, well I can tell is way better than the a700.

If you are looking for a 9.7 tablet and don't want to pay the price of an Ipad, you won't find anything better. But you need to have some knowledge on how to flash your android tablet.

Update

There is support from the seller, I just downloaded the android 4.2 firmware from [...] and it's running smooth and snappy. I definitely recommend this product.

I'm giving this product a five star rating based on it's value, best bang for your buck. Beautiful screen, very good build quality and good battery life. Every Android device is different and will perform differently but overall you will not be disappointed. Only thing, wish a custom case was made for the tablet.

Update 8/31/13
Tablet still working great. Just placed an order for the custom case. Downloaded AnEq to boost the volume for the speakers which has increased the sound very well. This tablet has been great for viewing my pictures, listening to music, watching videos and playing games. NFS Most Wanted plays excellent on this tablet and reading articles is great. It's true the cameras are not great for taking pictures but everything else works excellent and would greatly recommend this tablet to anyone.

So first impressions are everything and at first glance you may well think you are until you realize the following.

The good:
Build quality seems pretty sturdy for a non branded item
Display is exceptional and definitely a head turner
Size is pretty good too.
SD card slot and HDMI is a bonus

The bad:
No manufacturer support for upgrades
1.6ghz processor not the 1.8 as advertised
2mp cameras front and back
ARMv7 not v8 as per spec
Screen resolution is actually 2048 x 1440 not 2048 x 1536

Mine crashes a lot and in the two weeks I have had it I have emailed TE many times with no response so far. This time I have emailed them thorough amazon so I will see what response I get back and update my review as necessary.
